This is by far the best book of the series! Last Breathe nails what we love about the Clare-Frederick partnership- complex characters, fast paced and suspenseful action, intense chemistry, steam steam steam steam, and a romantic sweetness weaving it all together.

If you read the first book, this story catched us up with Regan, Daisy’s roommate that got caught up in the Nikolai-Daisy business in book one. She was abducted and has been forced to work as a sex slave. She’s been dehumanized and violated, but she’s fighting for survival. Enter Daniel, ex-army man turned assassin (and Nikolai’s colleague)- he doesn’t expect to find Regan in his mission investigating a Rio brothel is his missing sister. Regan doesn’t trust his intentions, but she’s about to be sold to a very bad man and is desperate, so she chooses to escape. And thus, we have a reluctant rescuer and a reluctant rescuee evading some dark and powerful enemies. This is story of a rescue on many fronts- a man rescuing a woman from torture and slavery but also two damanged and hurting individuals rescueing themselves and each others from being consumed by their own damage.

I loved Regan- she’s been through hell, but she’s resilient and determined. She’s hurting and scarred, but not broken- she’s still willing to be vulnerable and to care. And, Daniel is a dreamy leading man- skilled and capable, intelligent and witty, protective and tender. His care of Regan is really touching- he somehow manages to still treat her like a desirable woman, but he actively thinks about her emotional (and physical) safety and gives her space to let her trauma breathe. He’s protective but not domineering- he let’s Regan be at his side not just for the action but emotionally here.

With most romances centered on a sexual assault, you do have to suspend a bit of disbelief in terms of how it is handled- but Daniel and Regan’s love doesn’t burn too quickly- Regan’s trauma is respected and acknowledged and actively considered int he romance- not just something she magically is “cured” of once she gets with the guy. The dual POV is really great here, and the emotional and tender way these two connect, first out of necessity and then out of admiration and respect, is sexy AF. Oh, and the bedroom stuff is HOT HOT HOT.

Overall, I loved this story- action, adventure, steam, and chemistry but most important two equally footed and complex leads delicately being woven together amongst all the action. Highly recommend..

Okay, and I thought the Russian was hot. BUT DANIEL?

*aggressively sexual moan* There's something so sexy about consent when one is dealing with a woman who was sold into a brothel after being kidnapped by people looking for her roommate.

I love the amount of action in this book is almost enough to get past the amount of horrific acts that they all commit. Is this worse/darker than the first? I can honestly say I do not know but that is likely because I'm desensitized as fuck. BUT HOLY BADASS BATMAN. Regan is the baddie that I needed from this series. And honestly, my new icon. Survives and kicks ass, what more could an impressionable girl like me want?

If you like dark romances, definitely read these, but do yourself a favour and read them in order or else you'll get all wacked out.

Also, why is ending a book with a kidnapping acceptable TWICE?

I had a really hard time getting through this one. My heart completely broke for Regan in the first chapter and it stayed with me throughout the book. Loved Daniel and Regan together. Good suspense and super hot steamy scenes.

I really enjoyed Last Hit so I was excited to read this. Wow. I was not prepared to be as blown away as I was. I LOVED Daniel and Regan. I connected with them much more deeply than Nick and Daisy. This story was amazing. It was incredibly exciting, but it had such a heart. The way that Daniel helped Regan heal from the horrific things she had been through was so beautiful to read. He's pretty much one of the most amazing male leads I've ever read. I am so excited to read more in this series. I'm really hoping we get a nice novella for Daniel and Regan like we got for Nick and Daisy!

Could've done without the hero lusting after the heroine from the moment he sees her in the prison cell she's being held in after she was kidnapped in book 1. Just knowing what she went through as a sex slave, his thoughts just felt icky. However, as they are on the run, the way they start connecting worked for me and I enjoyed their romance more than the couple from book 1. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

If you haven't read "Last Hit" you need to read it first and this series in order.  It's been two months since Regan was taken with Daisy and Nick and Daisy still can't find her after being separated in Russia.  Daniel owes Nick a favor so he is looking for Regan in all of the brothels to see where she was taken.  He's also looking for his sister Naomi who was taken eighteen months before.  From Russia to Rio he's sickened by the human trafficking and desperate to find both women.  He's also in debt to Vasily and is looking for a hacker for him.  Finally finding Regan and getting her out of the clutches of very sick men,  Daniel finds one of his special forces team mates (Mendoza) who helps him administer justice.  Regan is damaged from being trafficked and Daniel has all sorts of thoughts he shouldn't.  The two of them form an uneasy alliance that turns into more as they are on the run from ruthless killers and trying to find a hacker and Naomi.  Edge of your seat thriller.

This story begins where the first story ended. Regan is taken into prostitution and her knight in shining armor Daniel is about to rescue her.
There is lead for the next book - Naomi and Vasily and I cant wait to get hold of the book. But this one, Daniel adn regan fit each other. Its awesome to see how an abused Regan comes out strong and finds her HEA.

Really good. Much better than the first one, and I'm so excited that this is going to be a full-fledged series with (what seems to be at least two) more books!

This book starts off so incredibly sad. Regan has been sold into human trafficking for the last two months and has almost given up hope, almost. Until an america. Stranger shows up and buys her.she thinks great another man to tattoo me, but is shocked when said man takes her to the American embassy.only Regan is too scared of being sold again and her trust is null and void after everything she has been through, so she begs this american stranger Daniel, to let her stay with him until she is showered and decent. Daniel agrees but after he is with her he realizes that she needs him far more than he thought so he helps her feel safe the only way he knows how, with a gun.www.bookbesties.com

*4.5* After finishing book one and reading the premise of book two, I almost skipped this one. I'm really, really glad I didn't! The author did a wonderful job and balancing the horror of human trafficking and women as sexual merchandise, but also showing one woman's path to healing and recovery. Regan's trauma wasn't glossed over. The book opens with
Spoilerher being raped on page. She is doing the ABC's of horror movies in her head to block out what's happening to her body.

Regan and Daniel were such well-written characters. Hidden depth, humor, shooting bad guys, and a dash of Stockholm syndrome help Regan to begin to trust Daniel and heal.
