Overall, I enjoyed it!

I read it this time for a design class and I think that I will have a lot of setting/scenic elements to draw upon and use.

Hard to rate as I read it not long after having seen in it on stage and being enthralled by my friends’ delightful performance. Possibly one of the less enjoyed creations by Shakespeare so far, but still he did what he did best - the conflict of values and feelings and our often despicable humane nature continues to amaze.

I was initially going to give this a 2.75. I found it trivial and convenient. However, after listening to the In Our Time podcast episode on this, I appreciate the insanity and preposterousness of this play. Reading acts 2-4 as a literal dream and the imagination, with harmonious effect is wonderful. Additionally, reading Puck/Robin's final farewell as a parallel between the imagination/subconscious and the play itself works amazingly. The 4 way lover's quarrel was effective and real. My only qualms is with the unclear stance on women in the play, although that may be the point.

Definitely one of my favorite Shakespeare plays.
