This book is absolutely freaking hilarious. Edward is so moody and broody and I love it. Effervescent.

—SPOILERS—
I absolutely hate him in the last couple chapters though, since he plans on leaving Bella in New Moon DESPITE KNOWING FULL WELL WHAT IT WILL DO TO HER. Piece of garbage vampire. Bella deserves better.
Now I’m off to write fanfiction.

On the abandoned list...

Edward Cullen is so uptight- if you stuck a lump of coal up his ass - in a week you’d have a diamond. Also a bucket full of - - -

I got three chapters in and was bored out of my mind. All the half telepathic conversations, boredom, and anxiety in Edwards mind was inane. What dialogue there was mostly came directly from the original. It’s been over 10 years since I read the trilogy so I shouldn’t recognize it this easily.

It was more enticing in 2008.

I loooooved getting to see inside Edward's head, truly an amazing read. I wish Stephenie would write the rest of the series through his eyes!

Yas, Stephanie Meyer. Go girl, give us nothing!

I was genuinely excited to get Edward's POV, but it was incredibly boring and repeatitive. There's only the smallest morsels of new insight because he spends the entire book stalking Bella and overthinking about everything we've already seen. While I expected some of that, it's basically what drags this book out to be 600+ pages of nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed ANY new scenes (Tokyo Drifting in Arizona was wild and exactly the unhinged behaviour I want), but otherwise it's just "Twilight slightly to the left" POV.

All in all, this was tiring to get through and turns out I'd rather not be in Edward's head ever again. Whack.

Before I begin, I want to preface by saying - I am, unashamedly, a huge fan of Twilight.

Also, before I begin, the book dedication was incredibly thoughtful and I loved it.

Now, onto the review. Midnight Sun is a new perspective on Twilight - Edward's perspective. During the first few chapters there is a real sense of nostalgia, it's like reading Twilight again for the first time, which I really did enjoy. But after those initial few chapters is where things started to fall flat for me. It was about 300 pages of the same Edward self-loathing again and again and again. It got very boring, very fast. The only reason I didn't shelve it there was out of sheer spite, I WANTED to see Edward's point of view of the final climax.

We get it, Edward is this brooding vampire that is fighting the urge to kill Bella, but 300 pages of the same narrative? I feel as though there would be much more going on in Edward's head, he's a complex character and I feel Meyer really did him dirty and made him very 2D. Vampire falls in love with a human he wants to kill. Cue 300 pages of "I should leave her", "I could kill her", "I can't kill her she's too fragile". It's extremely repetitive and boring.

Where the 1 star becomes 3 stars is the last 150 pages. The final climax I thought was very well written and does give a new perspective to the scene we all know. It was the highlight of the book and almost worth suffering through the 300 pages of boredom.

I probably wouldn't re-read this like I do with Twilight, but I'm glad I suffered through it.
