I am not sure why I even bothered to finish this book but, because I did, I gave it a couple of stars. It felt like it was written by a robot and not a very talented robot either. The main clue was given VERY CLEARLY about 25% in and the main characters (historically, very good detectives) didn't "clue"-in until much later. Very, very disappointing book. If you are a fan of Amos Decker don't bother with this one.
I always enjoy these books. Good mystery. Has you wondering the entire plot how it's going to end. Lots of twists and turns. Complicated but good!
Complicated plot, but worth it. Amos Decker looked all new in this book. A different storyline than the other Memory Man books.
Thank you Mr. Baldacci for bringing back Will Robie.

Not my favorite in the series, but a decent entry. 3/5 stars for plot. I missed Decker's character quirks, which have faded over the length of the series. A main character needs to grow but not lose himself in the process.

Not only does this book have Amos Decker buy Will Robie too... score. I love both of these series.
I haven't read the Will Robie series, but he makes an appearance in this one. He seems very "Jack Reacher"y. Also, because I listened to the audiobook, it kind of felt like Batman having a conversation with himself.
Who knew so much could happen in North Dakota? Good thriller.
2.5 rounded up.
By far my least favorite of the Memory Man series to date. It was, of course, still Baldacci, but barely recognizable as such. I thought both Amos and Alex were completely different. Alex wasn't as "sharp" as usual, seemed more like a tag along. Amos was dull. I missed their usual personalities and exchanges which, of course, is the main attraction of this series. The plot was ridiculous - far too many storylines jammed into one absurd wrap up. The best thing I can say about the book is that I learned alot about fracking.

Each Decker book in the series gets dumber and dumber. I have no idea why I have read all them, and I wouldn't say I regret reading them, but they're not good. Occasionally the plots are interesting, and occasionally there are good character beats. But they're all very occasionally, and the language used in the book make the author sound like a teenager.
Baldacci uses words two or three times in the same sentence. He relies hard on tropes and cliches. He has a strange fascination with patriotism and masculinity. And his character motivations, especially the antagonists, make next to zero sense.
