For Twin Peaks fans this definitely gives more of an insight into the tragic life and mindset of Laura Palmer, whilst adding context to some of the other events and characters from the series. A word of warning- this book contains some relatively graphic descriptions of underage sex and drug abuse which some readers (myself included) will find very uncomfortable, but it is needed in the context of the book (it is the diary of a very troubled teenage girl) and adds to the heartbreaking nature of the overall plot.

This is stark and disturbing. Definitely expands on the absolute hell that was Laura Palmer’s life. She has suffered more than Christ himself. I see her as a Saint to me. But the obsession, compulsion and devastation of her psyche and life is so profound, and so plaintively stated here, that you could forget that there are three seasons of a tv show and a movie about the aftermath of this child being destroyed, because it’s so present for the reader, so immediate. for the time you read this, you feel the sick intrusion into her life, the kaleidoscope of her fears and guilt and shame how she saw it. A powerful companion piece that builds out the world of Twin Peaks.

Absolutely haunting depiction of the ways sexual abuse can affect a teenage girl, and what happens when adults commodify sexuality. The supernatural element of the story is almost completely unimportant in the face of Laura's extreme self hatred.
The only part I didn't like were the parts where BOB was speaking through Laura in the diary, simply because I don't entirely understand how that happened without Laura herself being possessed, and we know that isn't the case by watching the show (I haven't watched the movie yet though so I might be missing something)

Supposedly a mandatory piece of Twin Peaks lore, but has blatant inconsistencies with the show. The fact that it's sad and disturbing was to be expected, but I was put off by how much the author wallows in what is essentially cp :/ I didn't want a sugar-coated Laura Palmer, and I'm aware the appeal of Fire Walk With Me lies in the guilt and complicity it incites in the viewer more so than the pity and fear, but this was badly handled and written in a cutesy tweenish voice that feels as out of place as ever. FWWM does the same story (more or less) while also maintaining that aura of mystery without which Twin Peaks wouldn't be Twin Peaks, and it's also better by a long shot. Tbh the worst thing a book can be is unnecessary, which this one unfortunately is.
