5 stars, without any doubt.
Loved the way two main stories intertwined in this book.
First story is about Freddie, from his birth until the day he died. Authors covered in great detail almost every single part of his life and by the end of the book, I fell in love with Freddie even more.
Second story is about AIDS and history of this devastating dissease. It's hard to imagine what was like to live in that time when the virus roamed the world without anybody knowing about it.
If you love Queen and Freddie, you'll love them even more after this book. So many emotions are waiting to knock you down.

A very clinical and factual take on the life and death and legacy of Queen’s Freddie Mercury. But it’s also about 35% a history of the rise of HIV/AIDS. This second element was completely unexpected and, to be honest, somewhat unwelcome. I know that HIV/AIDS was a big part of his life and, obviously, the cause of his death but I don’t need to start the book with a hypothetical about how a monkey bite in the woods of Africa initially spread the virus from simian to human for the first time. It was a bit too much for me.
There was a lot of good information in this book, about Queen, Freddie, AIDS, and queer culture. I feel like I learned a lot about all of those topics, and I liked how much of it was direct quotes. That said, some of the framing was odd, particularly around his sexuality--it referred to him as bisexual once or twice, then gay or homosexual throughout most of the rest of the book. This was despite referencing him having romantic and sexual relationships with women multiple times. So, didn't know what to do with that. I also found myself skimming over a lot of the play-by-plays of every gig they ever did. I mean, it's good that information is recorded somewhere but I found it a little extraneous to my interests.
I could not get through this book. The writing was terrible. There was no timeline. It was rough. I tried!

Tõsiselt haarav raamat. See polnud ainult Mercury elulugu, vaid ka AIDSi arenemise lugu. Need kaks teemat põimuvad oskuslikult läbi kogu raamatu.

I really enjoyed listening to this book to get more of the real story of Freddie Mercury's life compared to the movie biopic version that understandably took liberties. I didn't expect the addition of the background of the HIV virus and how it began and initially evolved to infect and impact humans, but I found that addition insightful. My favorite parts were when the creative processes were described: writing songs, making the recordings, filming the videos, etc. I would listen/read another book that did just that for every one of their hit songs as I personally find the process fascinating!
