This book was intriguing enough, but parts of it don't make sense. How could Stanley and Zero find Big Thumb in Texas when it was previously stated to have been in Latvia? The ending was also too convenient for Stanley and Zero. They're released. They find treasure, Stanley meets his idol, and his father finally has a successful invention? It all feels too perfect for me.

Read aloud to my 6 and 10 year olds. They loved it, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered.

Timeless piece of literature. I’ve read it twice now & still love it! The plot is simple but the foreshadowing in this novel is amazing and makes the ending worthwhile.

Read with my kid- it was very good and brought up some really important issues, but also had some fun at times. Perfect for middle schoolers!

This is such a wonderful book. Read it years ago as a kid and still enjoyed it just the same as an adult. I was actually surprised how much of the book I remembered—I definitely the kind of person who easily forgets plot lines, but I have such vivid memories of loving every second of this book. Fun and clever, with just the perfect dash of seriousness, Holes is a great example of how timeless middle grade can be.

Honestly if I didn’t love the movie I probably would’ve thought this was boring
