i mean it passed the time on a flight. it was an interesting plot and story-within-a-story premise but the execution was just okay

this was a great read, read the last half all in one sitting. the twists and turns of the story were great and I was so excited and intrigued by the story within the story
This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed being along for the ride as Freddie (and the rest of her sudden friend group) tried to figure out what was going on. I was content to sit back and not try too hard to solve the mystery myself and still ended up enjoying myself immensely.
The email correspondence aspect of the book was intriguing too and I was a bit suspicious of Leo but wow, what a turn it all took midway through the book!
Would be intrigued to read more by the author at some point.

I desperately want to love this book more than I do. It took too long to understand the framed narrative, making it hard to connect to the characters and almost causing me to throw it on the dnf pile. Glad I stuck with it, but it fell short

I'm... so disappointed in this book. it was SO GOOD in the beginning but as time went on the characters got more unlikable the more I learned about them. the irl Leo beta reader b-plot was completely unresolved? him being crazy was more interesting than the other characters stories tbh.
the constant bringing up of how different America is to Australia was quite annoying, especially since it was mainly ignorance/stereotypes, & the casual talk of police brutality was very insensitive.
FREDDIE WAS DICKMATIZED TO THE MAX!!!! I've never read about a character falling IN LOVE in what? 2 months? & then defending her man when he's a suspect of MURDER pls it was so unbelievable. the entire groups friendship was unbelievable.
