I typically am wary of books with as much hype as this, because I don’t want to be let down… so, I began reading with high expectations and low expectations if that makes sense. However, the story (spanning many decades and including a few generations of one family) and the characters drew me in and quickly convinced me of their worthiness. The flaws of this family were laid out so realistically and with such complexities that as a spectator you were allowed to both root for them and recognize the hurt and trauma they were inflicting. Beautiful writing.

I really enjoyed this book, despite how sad it was. The story focuses on the relationship between four sisters and their broader loved ones (parents, partners) through the perspecyof one of the partners. It's beautifully written, entertaining and gut wrenching all at once.

I enjoyed this book despite being annoyed at some of the choices made by some of the characters. Of course the decisions made the story and the tensions between where they were in their lives more interesting.

I really enjoyed the fleshing out of each of these women and the one man whose inner voice we hear. Such a rich and enveloped group of people with varied individual an outlook on life but utter entanglement as sisters and lovers.

A wonderfully emotional story and I enjoyed following them and was both emotional and sad when the book ended.

Highly recommended.

i love a story that delves deep into character psyche. felt the pacing of this was a little all over the place and there were point where i wanted to slow it down and examine a moment or an emotion. but that’s an indication of how great the writing is. i wanted more time with each character.

Beautiful story full of the human experience that is told through multiple perspectives. There were some characters that felts a little flat and never seemed to develop, but I suppose that's just how some people are in real life.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 39%. Incredibly boring. Not a single likable character. Setting felt very incorrect.

I had to drag myself through the first chapters. Wondering what all the fuzz was about. Once William did what he did it, it becomes easier to read and go with the flow. But the story is predictable.

For me the only thing interesting enough was that I could play shrink and analyse a dysfunctional narcissistic family with the mother being the covered narc. The father a doormat, the oldest daughter the golden child. The youngest the scape goat and so on…
It was the only thing that kept me reading this book. That and my idiotic fascination with my GOODREADS 2025 stats
