This was really good, and I always love Robin Hobb's books. She has a way with writing that even when there's not a whole lot going on I'm still really engaged in the story. The only thing I didn't love about the bok was I felt like Fitz wasn't as smart as he should have been. I don't know how he's made it so long in life without getting himself killed, nevermind all his training as an assassin.

Robin Hobb is such an incredible writer. And I can think of no better example than what she does in this book as a character whom I liked in the first 2 books, hated in 3 and 7-9 is made real. I went from hating his selfish actions to understanding but disagreeing to actually connecting with his character. To invoke such a drastic change in my understanding of a character while simultaneously mimicking the very development of the main character in the reader isn’t just good writing. It’s beyond perfect and it astounds me that more people haven’t read it.

I have so many thoughts.
I feel sorry for Fitz, this is probably harder for him than any other book, and yet all his trials in his other books were equally as painful.
But this time, a child, his own and final child, is probably more painful than anything else.
Especially when he himself has finally gained recognition of his own status at court.
The ending of this book has left me in huge suspense. On Bee, I knew, and was waiting to find out what happens. But Fitz though, he was unravelling, but worst of all, I hope Fool is okay!!! THAT ANNOYING RAPSKAL (I keep thinking "Rascal" so I've probably spelt his name wrong).
A better review at another time when my mind has digested.
Sidenote: It was so lovely to see old faces from the Liveship Traders! Even if Malta annoyed me to no end. I wonder if we get to see Althea and Brashen (my faves!) I've forgotten who the other main character was, the boy (I really, really, didn't care for him, even if I felt incredibly sorry for him...) and don't care to see him again. But hopefully I get to see Althea and Brashen!
