The second in the Monkeewrench series by P.J. Tracy. Equally as good as the first.

I have to say that I really liked this book, possibly even more than I liked the first one in the series. I feel that by the time we get to this second book we know the characters, we know who they are, we know their backstories etc. which means that the focus can lie on the actual plot and Magozzi and Gino’s case.

The plot is great as well. I found the case interesting right from the start, but then it takes some twists and turns I really wasn’t expecting, and that drew me in even more.

The Monkeewrenchers are still by far the most interesting characters to me, and something I really love about this series is Grace MacBride and the way that her character is evolving and developing, by her own volition but also through her developing relationship with Magozzi.

Really the only thing I didn’t quite like about this book is the fact that some of it is told through the eyes of a retired cop who happens to be the murdered Morey Gilbert’s son-in-law. He’s a tragic character with a really sad story, and provided an insight into the case that the main characters wouldn’t have been able to give us, but I still found myself not really caring about him and would have liked it better if they had stuck to the point of view of the main characters.

But all in all, I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s well-written, with an engaging plot and characters that I have really come to like. It’s a great continuation of the Monkeewrench series, and I look forward to see where the series is going.

This was the first crime book I’ve read, and I did really enjoy it. Keeps you guessing and I flew through it. Only reason I’ve opted for a 3 star rating is I’ve read a couple of other crime books since and thought they were better, but it’s a good read if you’re looking to get into the genre or for an easy read.

4.5*, rounded up to 5*. It gets docked the half point for calling concrete "cement" and for getting the geography of the Twin Cities a little off. Otherwise, it was an excellent book. A mystery with a good plot is somewhat to be expected if it is at all worth reading, but it's a very rare thing for me to feel emotionally invested in the characters- victims, detectives, survivors, etc. I will definitely be reading further books in this series.

It was a decent detective novel but didn't really have anything that drove me into the story, I didn't get attached to the people in it and the crime wasn't that exciting to follow but it was written with a decent skill. While I'm not rushing to read another book from P.J Tracy I might read some in another time.

Well written novel. Though I did not read Monkeewrench (I received this as a Goodreads Giveaway) I didn't feel like I needed to have read it to understand, nor did I feel that it gave away too much of the previous book, as well.
