Oof this book had me so mad! But…. I still loved it. Also the bonus scene was great teamfosterkeefe. Also I think Ro is my favorite side character. Badass ogre princess bodyguard with metal breastplates and a sharp tongue . Hell yeah.

WELL THEN.

Probably 3.75 stars (it was too long and THAT WHOLE THING AT THE END WAS NOT OKAY AT ALL, plus MY KEEFE CHILD WAS NOT IN THIS ENOUGH AND NO ONE CARES ABOUT HIM ANYMORE
Spoilerthanks to stupid Fitzphie
) but still really really good. Not my favorite of the series, that's all xD

Buddy read with Nicole Dust!

This book was at least 400 pages too long. Almost nothing happened for the first 3/4ths of the book, and everything that did happen could be condensed quite a bit. I also really don't care about Sophie's crush on Fitz and hearing her internal thoughts about it over and over. I don't really mind romance in YA or middle grade novels, but only when it's a small side plot and doesn't become so central (especially in middle grade, which this is). I'm definitely invested in this series, and I care where it goes, but I wish it would focus less on teenage crushes, and more on their fight with the Neverseen.

By FAR the worst book in this series
Half of it was spent in a hospital bed where the protagonist: sulked over not being able to get out of bed, took medicine, practiced some abilities(idk), sulked some more and oh my god it was just so repetetive and boring. You couldn’ve cut around 300 pages out of this book and you wouldn't miss a single thing valid to the plot.

The second half was way better but unable to redeem the horrible first half

I've definitely outgrown this series, but I'm too involved to stop reading it... I really hope it has a satisfying ending.
