My boyfriend recommended this. It was a good short read but the characters to the age range, it just didn't mesh with the type of book I would recommend. I think the theme is important for young readers, and if there was a slight bit more content to flesh out some characters and polish some side plots, maybe I'd like it a bit more. I am not sure.

So, The Wave.
The Wave is a (middle grade?) novel about a classroom experiment conducted by history teacher Ben Ross, which spirals out of control real quick.
To me, it was mildly important.
Since it is based on true events, sometimes I wondered if the actions characters took was a dramatization, but if it was dramatized I thank the author because otherwise I would've not cared.
I'm not hating the author or anything, but the novel is lacking good characters. Laurie Sanders is the only character I enjoyed reading about.
To me, it was okay.
Is it important? Kind of. This could've been done better.

Reread. First read this in middle school. Was aghast at the writing style but the story itself always stayed with me.

A book based on a true story... ✅ Check
2.5/5 stars

I had high expectations for this book, because of how great the movie is, however, the book fell short on what I expected.
The writing is very plain and the dialogue childish, seeming forced most of the time, like rehearsed lines that no one would ever say.
Overall I felt like this was a great idea, but was not executed well, the whole fascist side of the story never took off completely.
I actually prefer the movie to this book.
