Phenomenal. Really well structured and full of ideas while still keeping interesting characters. Will absolutely continue the series

Three teenagers are outside one night when suddenly the stars go out. This book follows them through the next 30 years as they - and the rest of the world - try to figure out what has happened and why. This was a fascinating story, very original, well written. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and plot. I love authors that can describe things succinctly but in ways that conjure up a vivid image and are memorable. For example, the main character's mother is described as keeping a livable, but clean house: "not everything was in its place, but everything had a place."

Rated R for language, which was so disappointing because there are several people I would love to recommend this book to but I won't because of the language. The first third of the book was fine, but then the author starts gratuitously using the F-word throughout the rest of the book. It also knocked my rating down... I would have given this book 3 1/2 stars without the language.

I won this book through Goodreads Firstreads.

Great science fiction. very interesting concept and very well written.

I wish I could give spin 3.5 stars on goodreads. Its a fun little sci fi read that suffers from Robert Charles Wilson's writing style. There are way too many wasted pages on scientific technicalities that add nothing to the book. i found the first 70% of the book to be considerably better than the ending. A good read though and would have gotten 4 stars if it was 100 pages shorter.

I liked this book, but it was a little too slow at times, especially towards the middle. The ending was full of action, and it left us with so many questions without the feeling of dissatisfaction, excellent preparation for the sequel.

I loved the characters and I really cared about them, especially Jason, he was so fascinating.

I also enjoyed the form of storytelling being on two timelines, but sometimes the later timeline felt a little artificial in order to not spoil anything from the older timeline.

The writing style was very nice, lyrical at times, it added value to the book.

I found the scientific explanations a little too rushed though and it was hard to understand. It felt as though the author himself didn't really understand what he was trying to explain, I've seen this done much better in e.g. The Three Body Problem or Project Hail Mary.

Overall, a very interesting and enjoyable science fiction book, I'm excited about the sequels.

I really enjoyed this book. A good mix of hard science fiction and character-driven elements.

Intriguing concepts, emotionally uninvolving characters.

I loved this book.
I found it entertaining, scratches that Hard-Sci-Fi itch i have; and scratches it pretty good i might add, accurate, with a very decent cast of characters, all of which i liked (or liked their contribution anyways), very ... epic plot as well.

I was hooked from the very first chapter.
And it kept getting better.

It really was an impressive plot though, and the twists and turns that it took were nice as well (without spoiling too much)
The plot also permits some extremely interesting things ... like ... well, read and find out ;)

This stands alone pretty well (there are a couple of things i didn't understand completely, and i'll think them through), but i *might* read more in the series to have some other answers.
I also wonder if Axis and Vortex (the next books in the series) have the same protagonists (or at least in the same-ish timeline)

RE-READ: GOD DAMN I WANT TO GIVE THIS BOOK 6 stars out of 5.
the second re-read is more rewarding, just so fkn GOOD.

4.5 stars
Nerd love.

I really, really liked Spin.

As much as I liked the world building and Tyler's lifelong and complicated relationship with Jason and Diane, I also really liked the science aspect of the story.

I love that it was never dumbed down; that although Tyler, the central character, was not the insanely gifted scientist that Jason was, he was a medical doctor and therefore capable of understanding complex interrelationships, and so we as readers are given those intelligent explanations instead of a patronizing simplification.

My only complaint (which, really, is a hugely nitpicky one) is that the story was so dense that it sometimes felt longer than it was, particularly toward the end.

Otherwise, it was nice to read a well-written, intellectually stimulating science fiction work.

Bring on the next installment!
