Meh. Ok. Still flat characters. Boring story. Nothing awful but nothing to get excited about. Good for a quick book.

The standard of writing is poor but a good story. Quick and easy read.

Another fast paced thriller from Damien Boyd as DI Nick Dixon is on the trail of a murderer who dispatches their victims in a very public and gruesome manner. Much like the first book, character development comes second to the speed and pacing of the story which may not be to everyone's liking but it was fine with me. It is effectively a whodunnit with a couple of decent red herrings thrown in for good measure and if you fancy a gory whodunnit then you could do a lot worse than this.

I'm officially a fan of this author/series. Have already purchased #3 in the series, Kickback, which will very soon be in my 'currently reading' list.

Set in Britain, DI Dixon and his partner are off and running when a severed head is found at a golf course. And the plot thickens quickly :)

The pace of this book never slows. Once I started reading it, all other activities in my life took a back seat. I like the characters, that the focus of the book is in solving the mystery, the subtle way of handling the relationship between Dixon & Jane without a second by second replay, and even the silly dog.

I *did* wonder at referring to their car speed in mph rather than kph, but that may just be me.

I better get some housework done before i start #3! Mr. Boyd - hurry up and write #4 please!!!

P.S. the first in this series, As the Crow Flies, is still FREE for Kindle. If you're a mystery fan, quick go get it.

I think I liked this book even more because now I know and like the characters. Though Nick's lack of care about eating regularly bothered me. What an interesting mystery. The fact that the current crime linked to crimes from 30 years ago was fascinating. I enjoyed that path to solve the mystery and was surprised with the result. I listened to this book when traveling and it was a delight. The narrator does a great job. I will definitely continue the series.

Thank you to NetGalley for the kindle edition of this book. This is the second Nick Dixon mystery and. again, I enjoyed it. Another fast paced read that keeps you guessing to the end.

This book was enjoyable and had a very good plot which would have lent itself to a one-hour television police show with great success. It was a strictly linear police procedural, all told from the main character's perspective. The main character was clearly intelligent, thoughtful, decisive and an excellent police officer, although he did have a few flaws including a desire to micro-manage his team.

The problem is that I expect more from a book. I expect strong characterisation, and although the characters had personalities I did not feel that they were portrayed with enough emotion to make them believable.

There was too much dialogue and far too much of it was 'he said... she said...'
Two things which left me wondering where - who sent the "Vodden 1979" email (this was never explained or investigated) and more importantly - could an electric carving knife, presumably batter operated, really do that to a neck?
