THIS FREAKING BOOK AUGHHH I loved the plot and the setting. It was so creative and the magic system was so interesting. my only problem with the book was that it seemed really long. Even though I get aggravated with time travel in books this was done in a way where I wanted to know more and I felt like it was explained in a way where it made sense. I loved the romance in the book as well but the plot was definitely the main focus.

I love the way the book is set up with multiple magical families and their roles in society. The book was well paced, but my only issue with it is that things felt rushed towards the end.
I’m not sure how I feel about the ending, because George is still in power and we know the chronoses aren’t good people. It just felt like luxe went through all this hastle to protect her family and although she achieved that it still cost her so much.

First of all, the magic system in this book was really interesting. I enjoyed the concept of jewels being the monetary exchange that happened, and how giving the jewel over to a Revelle gave them the power to manipulate your feelings. I liked how there was a cost to the magic, as it created the sense of balance and utilization of that power in a way that the person had to weigh the consequences before the execution.

The book paced well, and I did love how the family came together near the end to take on the burden Luxe carried since she was 11.

The idea of the story was intriguing but I did feel like the ending kind of rushed things and I felt like I still had some unanswered questions. I didn’t understand the significance of Jamieson being the catalyst for Luxe’s power in every timeline. I expected a big reveal regarding that connection and it didn’t seem to come together well in the end. I wasn’t truly sold on Luxe’s and Jamieson’s relationship, as well as I didn’t feel like I was fully satisfied with Dewey’s reveals.

Overall it was an okay book, but I don’t think like I will think about the story now that it’s complete or feel compelled to recommend it.

The magic, world-building, mystery solving, timeline jumping, and the writing style kept me curious and intrigued. The chapters are told from Jamison and Luxe’s perspective, and they unfold both character’s motives, as well as how they perceive each other and the people around them. The plot was predictable, but it made the story easy to follow. I would’ve rated this book higher, but because the main characters don’t suffer consequences for any of their actions, I needed to lower the rating. Mainly the last four chapters and the epilogue left me feeling frustrated. I’d still recommend the book, just leave you with a promise to not be surprised at the plot and the ending.
