Completely riveting

Well, that was better than I expected. I started reading it on my lunch at work, and had a hard time putting it down to go back to work. I must say, as a parent of a teenager (15), I felt like this was a bit dark and bloody with slightly racier content than I would give a young teen (I’d personally wait until my daughter was at least 16 to give it to her), but I found the whole story quite good. The pacing, characters, and world building was pretty good and sometimes quite terrifying. I had some questions about the world after the Flash that were never really explained, but I managed to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story. I did wish that Jackson would stop PMSing already and be a big boy, and that arrow shooting chick (i can’t be bothered to remember her name) reminded me of someone else in my life who I loathe, so I pretty much wanted to pinch her head off as soon as she popped up. But I’m definitely going to read the next book to see what happens next.

4.5

I started this book with very high expectations. I had heard wonderful things about the author and the book's blurb had me immediately hooked. That being said, I was very happy with this read!

I am in love with the concept of this story. Teenagers who represent different Tarot cards? It's so different and unique! I have never read anything like it and that alone added a thrill when I started this book. It wasn't something that you find often in YA, like vampires, fallen angels, or faeries. Throughout the time when I was reading it, I was amazed with how normal all the paranormal elements seemed to be. I never thought oh, that's not believable, it always fit perfectly in the story.

The plot was also great! Though I was a little confused at first because of the switching POVs, I quickly caught on and was able to just enjoy the main story line. Everything was very well thought out. Nothing slipped through Kresley Cole's fingers; she kept everything controlled and in line. I really appreciated that when reading. All the details in the story matched up with each other perfectly. It felt very well organized and I enjoyed following Evie and Jack's adventure.

Speaking of Evie and Jack . . . they were two completely different characters and I love both of them. With their personalities in such contrast to each other, I never knew whether they were going to be fighting or getting along. Both options were equally entertaining and fun to read. The banter, while frustrating at times, gave a lot of insight on how they saw each other and how they saw themselves. For a lot of the book, I was upset because they had such warped views of each other. I hated that they stereotyped each other when they first met. I also was extremely frustrated with both of them for different reason. I was mad at Evie for keeping secrets from Jack when he was one of the only people she actually could confide in and I was made at Jack for shutting Evie out at times. I felt like they were so good together and the romantic tension between the two was heart racing. I just wanted them to get together and stay that way. I am excited to see where their relationship goes in the second book and how they both grow and mature.

With an amazing and unique idea, a thrilling and fast paced plot, and some really great characters, Poison Princess is a book that will hook you the moment you begin reading and take you on an exciting and heart-pounding journey of adventure, discovery, and romance. If you haven't bought it already, I highly recommend you do!

My favorite book right now! This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! I am dying waiting on the next book! You will definitely not be disappointed by this book!

Yeah, it's young adult post-apocalyptic fiction. But it's Kresley Cole. Don't judge me.

This is one of my favorite series ever! Evie is so multi-faceted and I love her growth as she learns more about the game and her powers she becomes even more interesting. She and Jack are one of my favorite fictional couples! Jack is such a deep character and adds so much to the story. Highly recommend!

Hmm that was kind of crazy! The plot was pretty cool, but I kind of had a problem with the characters. Obviously I am not a fan of bad boys, so of course Jackson ticked me off. Most of the time I really wanted to punch him, he was irritating & condescending. He had his moments, but they didn't make up for all his jerk moves, so I am still not a huge fan of his. On the other hand Evie drove me crazy too; she started out biotchy & then was mostly clueless. It took forever for her to do something instead waiting for Jackson to protect her. Ugh I wanted to shake her for being somewhat annoying & helpless. She did grow on me though. I was not a fan of Selena's & Matthew was infuriating so I empathized with Evie there.

The plot was what kept me reading on, I loved the world building. I can't wait to see what will happen next!

couldn't put it down. I was sitting on the edge of my seat to find out what happened next. I love evie & jack.

well...that turned out to be creepier and crazier than I expected.

My Thoughts:

1. Initially I didn't like Evie's character at all. She comes off as a spoiled cheerleader who looks down on "the help" and lives for popularity. Ugh. It wasn't until the last few chapters that there was finally character development.
2. This is one of those books where I enjoyed reading about the post-apocalyptic world more than the romance. The post-apocalyptic world Cole built was terrifying(zombies!)and yet totally awesome!
3. It was refreshing to read how tarot cards were incorporated into the plot. Though I wished there was a prologue introducing the cards cause it does get confusing sometimes. Pay careful attention to the visions...there is alot of foreshadowing hidden in them.
4. I didn't understand the romance between Jack and Evie, at all. It felt out of place and awkward. I didn't have all those tingy, butterflies, gushy romanctic feelings I usually do when reading a romanctic storyline.
5. Let's talk about characters: Matthew- You're a weird kid and yet I adore you. Selena- Ugh, I hate you. Go away. Jack- You're such an idiot and sometimes a jerk, but I don't hate you...yet.
6. I really liked how Cole the story in terms of sequence of events. She introduces us to life before the Flash and then jumps to after the Flash...so pay careful attention to the dates.
7. Wow. The ending. How can you expect us to patiently wait for the sequel after that kind of ending?!?
