I read the Poison Princess years ago and I just re read it in preparation for the final book (From the Grave) to come out next month. The Poison Princess is a YA book by Kresley Cole. It is one of those fabulous YA adult books that adults and teens can read and fall in love with. I REALLY enjoy Kresley Cole’s writing style and books whether adult or young adult.
This book is totally different than a lot of the plot lines being written currently. That really made reading the book more enjoyable. It takes place in a post apocalyptic world where the Major Arcana cards are found alive in human counterparts.
The Poison Princess focuses on Evie as she learns who she is and more about her role in the game being played. The first few chapters do take place pre flash (which is pre apocalypse) and give a back story to Evie and Jack (another main character). Throughout PP we follow Evie as she learns more about herself and the other players in the life and death game. Jack also plays a pivotal role and we meet the third main character in this book.
I have to say I LOVE this book as much the first read through. Of course I noticed new things the second time I did not the first time. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors!

I really enjoyed this book. I see a lot of hate for the characters, which I sort of get, but I think it's also part of what makes the story so good. These are very flawed teenagers who are put in a horrible situation. It leaves a lot of room for growth, and I look forward to watching that.
The storyline and plot itself is amazing, it's so unique and well thought out. You can tell how much time the author put into the little details. I can't wait to start book 2!

Sixteen year old Evie is experiencing some violent and bloody hallucinations and thinks she’s going crazy. When an apocalyptic event destroys most of the world, she realizes her nightmares are coming true. Her only ally is Jackson DeVeaux, a Cajun bad boy who can’t decide if he wants her or hates her. Seems like the crazy in her life is just beginning...
This book was selected as a Teens' Top Ten book for 2013 and I can definitely see why! Kresley Cole mixes genres, creating a dystopian/apocalyptic, fantasy, horror, and romance novel. The story was a little gruesome and bloody for my taste, but I loved the fantasy and romance. The tension between Evie and Jack Deveaux is intense, but you can't help but hope that they get together in the end. Evie's character is a little whiny at times, but I can't wait to see her step up when she finally comes into her powers. Once you start this series, you won't be able to stop! Recommended for ages 16 and up due to violence and sexual innuendo.

I gotta say, I love this concept. The characters on Tarot cards coming to life? Freaking awesome! I absolutely love the powers the characters had as we met more of the Tarot characters, and I think the pacing was very well set. What started out as a YA high school drama quickly switched gears to a brutal dystopian apocalypse, but the shift never felt jarring or out of place. I really liked the setting and the complications that arose from it, and really felt like I was on a journey with the characters. As far as the characters themselves... I'm a little more mixed on them. To be fair, I really like Evie. I think she's a great lead character and someone I can sympathize with, who I feel is "real." The others... I'm not entirely sold on if I'm being honest. Some of the side characters annoyed or frustrated me, and Jack? I honestly can't stand him at all. He's an ultra jerk, and only had one scene where I sort of liked him. I hated feeling like I was "forced" to sympathize him when it doesn't seem like he cares about Evie at all. I won't go into more details, because this is just my opinion and overall I liked the book, but "ole Jack" has a LONG way to go to make me feel like I should care about what happens to him. All in all, this was a unique YA read and I really am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book but at some points I felt that it was a bit slow, and for a while the only thing that kept me reading was Jack. I'm glad that the Arthur storyline finally connected with Evie's story because I wondered what the importance was. I look forward to reading Endless Knight.
This book was beyond average. It had such an interesting concept, but it wasn't anything fantastic. The sexual tension between the two main characters was just like any other book.
I am just ready to move on to bigger and better books.
