I first read this book when I was sixteen and now as i’m re-reading it i like it even better. i couldn’t put the book down. my favorite ya series hands down

I can't wait to start the next one!

OH LORD!

Poison Princess was fucking amazing. I absolutely loved this audio book. I never wanted to press pause, but of course I did to do some family stuff or sleep. Evie, the main character, was a god damn bad ass. A god damn poison princess bad ass. I love her so much. However, she did kind of annoy me sometimes. She whined a lot and was pretty much useless until the end.

Besides her, there was Jackson, Selena, Matthew, Finn, and Arthur. Jackson, man I loved that mysterious guy. I totally shipped them together in this book but I have a feeling that they might not be an actual couple - it's okay, I'll wait to see what this series will do to my heart. Then there was Selena, god I did not like her in this book. When we first meet her she just seemed kind of desperate to get Jackson's attention and I'm like.. ugh, I hate thirsty thots so much. Matthew and Finn were interesting enough but I only really cared about Jackson and Evie.

Then there was Arthur, oh Arthur. I was confused for a moment, or two, about Evie wanting to see him so badly. Once I came to realization that I hate him and he deserved to die for trying to poison a poison princess (what an idiot by the way!) and also wanted to keep her has one of his creepy captives.. yeah, no. He needed to go.

Overall, I loved this book. I was kind of sad about some of the sudden deaths thrown at me while listening to this wonderful book. Yet, it was such a god damn page turner, or page listener?, that I was so pumped to see how it was going to end. Now I'm already listening to the next book because I'm hooked guys.

Please pray for my ship.

I’m seeing a lot more negative reviews for this book than I thought I would! I had no idea what to expect (didn’t read the back, had never heard of it, no preconceived notions are all) and initially I was not thrilled. I thought this book was going to be about how mental health issues plague the pretty popular rich girl and how hard her life is because of it.

Oh man. Nope. This was a wild ride packed with everything I could want in a novel. Romance, a whimsical fantastical sub/main??? plot, a post apocalyptic society, and a troubled hero to guide our main girl through it all.

So much happened in this book but not in a bad way. I think it was played out exactly how it needed to. We weren’t constantly bored with the moments in between the action where Evie and Jack were traipsing across the United States but there were plenty of scenes to show us what it was like for them. We are introduced to new characters in an organic way, not keeping the story limited to Evie and Jackson but without throwing pointless supporting characters our way over and over again.

The trouble that the teens get into is pretty typical when you’re considering how the actual end of the world might affect them. Men trying to steal and rape the girls, scarce food and water, lack of transportation and safe shelter, plus there’s the whole reanimated corpses thing. The Arcana plot is developed slowly, relatively, and at a pace that you can actually absorb. She doesn’t put it all together in a day. Jack doesn’t take it well. Some Arcana know more than others. Some don’t know anything at all. I’m just really happy with so much about this book.

I have things I don’t like about it but I think those are almost all results of how the author truly tries to put up “in the mind” of this teenage girl.

I think this is a great beginning to this series and I look forward to reading on. It’s been a while since I’ve read such a great introduction to a series.

This is my second time reading this series and I love it just as much as I did the first time. So addictive!

it’s tough because i didn’t particularly enjoy the first half of it (and  the second half tbh) but it really ended like that so now i have to read the rest of the series because im nosey. i think it’s definitely a book i might have loved when i was 13.

Everyone believes that Evie is a typical popular girl but she has a secret, she keeps on seeing horrifying hallucinations and plants seem to be attracted towards her. When the flash, an apocalyptic event, hits, Evie realises that her hallucinations where actually visions of the future. Desperate for answers she gets help from wrong side of town, former classmate Jack Deveaux to get her across the country safely. With an ancient prophecy being played out, Evie is not the only person with special powers but do they mean her harm?

Poison Princess has a very interesting story idea with the tarot cards and the Arcana and has so much potential. However, I feel very conflicted about this book, as when I was reading it, I did not want to put it down, but once I had I didn’t feel the need to carry on reading it. The first part was very boring when they were at school but it did pick up after the flash, although I would have liked to see more of the aftermath of the flash and the first few days of it rather than skipping it.

I was really not a fan of the two main characters, which was the major reason for me not enjoying this book as much as I could of. I don’t like Evie as at the start she is the type of popular girl who thinks she is everyone friends but only in a shallow way and she looks down her nose at everyone who was not like her. She was not much better after the flash as she was naïve, really not fit to survive in this new world and fights against her powers which could save her life.

Jack was such a jerk as he was misogynistic, possessive (and not in a good way) and has a massive chip on his shoulder. I really liked Matthew and I felt very protective of him. I thought Evie’s mother was portrayed as being a bit of a baddie for sending her off to the CLC but I felt that she was trying to help her daughter as best she could.

I am not sure if I want to read the next book or not but I would recommend Poison Princess to fans of dystopian books with a hint of the paranormal.

That was a big surprise!!!
I was expecting a three star read but it ended up sooo much better than that, and if the second book is as good as the first I might bump this up to five stars.

The very beginning of this gave me a very different perception of how it was for the majority of the book. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed both but I would recommend reading a decent chunk of this before judging it. As an apocalypse was bound to do, things change a lot!

I love the story line in this series, reading it I can't believe it hasn't been explored more by other authors. Maybe it has and I've just missed finding them.
Bringing the Major arcana Tarot characters to life was inspired! I really hope the rest of the series is as good as the first.

At first I wasn't keen on Jacksons French dialect and the way it was depicted in the book but it grew on me surprisingly fast. I thought it was going to be annoying reading his parts but I found it easy to read and believable.

I'm not usually a fan of the main character being poplar and loved by everyone. It's not that I dislike popular people I just find it hard to relate to them. I didn't find it to much of an issue in this mainly because the end of the world / apocalypse kind of made social status irrelevant. As I said this book changes pace a few times.

It starts in the present and then we go back in time when everything is normal (pre-apocalypse) and builds up to explaining the beginning segment of the book.

If you know about the tarot you may love this or you may hate it. The representations of the tarot was fairly broad but it was obvious to me the author has a good understanding about the cards and what they mean.
I personally loved it, and creating the major arcana cards as real people has completely drawn me in and I can't wait to read the next one.
