I give this book four stars for the unique story, action, and adventure. I read the entire thing in one sitting because I was captivated by where Evie and Jackson would end up. Unfortunately, if you are looking for romance, this isn't the book for you. Aside from one semi-steamy scene, it was a dud.. Which is unfortunate considering some of the reviews I read talked about how steamy it got.

BUT if you are looking for a YA book version of Walking Dead meets Tarot cards meets a weird chess like fantasy game where everyone is a player then this is your book.

I liked it, but I won't be continuing the series.

This book is a definite guilty pleasure. The writing is incredibly strong and the premise is SO GOOD, but the main romantic lead is such a bundle of painful stereotypes that I don't know where to begin. I loved it, but I was thoroughly confused that I loved it, because half of the time I wanted to throw it across the room. Pretty much every time Jackson opened his mouth, or the protagonist thought about Jackson, which is at least a third of the book.

It's a pretty standard post-apocalyptic action/adventure/romance, but the setting is really, genuinely new and interesting. The idea of a solar flare causing devastation is hardly new, but teenagers fighting a magical war to the death is a fun twist on the usual tropes, and I LOVE the explanation for the bagmen and why they hunt people. The villains are interesting, the threats feel real, and the emotional punches hit you right where you want it to hurt.

Seriously, just get rid of Jackson and this book would be five stars.

This book is really different from what I have read before and I love the tarot card element to the story. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and there are so many different layers to them all and you never know when one of them is going to pull the rug from under you. There's so much mystery and I cannot wait to figure it all out as well as watching where the romance goes in the book.

What a ride!!!! Loved this from start to finish. I slowed my reading so I wouldn’t finish too quickly, but now I’m dying to read the next in the series. Hello new obsession #arcanachronicles

Interesting take on post-apocalyptic, dystopian YA. I want to find out what happens next.

Just as good the second time around! A kickass fantastical apocalypse series full of angst, action, a little heat, life and death, magic, what more could you want!

This book is so fast paced and though it just builds the world and gets it set up for the rest of the series I could not get enough. I regret that it took me so long to read this book as this series has the potential to be one of my new favorites.

Will not be continuing this series.
