This is a nicely written fairy tale rewrite of Beauty and the Beast. It's fairly faithful to the original.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I loved the story and the writing but the ending felt rushed.

This is a straightforward retelling of Beauty and the Beast, with filled out characters and family relationships. Beauty's family is the best part of this book; I loved her relationship with her sisters. Her brother -in-law is a great character also, though the others apart from Beauty and the Beast are flatter. I really enjoyed this book; I couldn't put it down.

I'm fairly certain that I had read this before, possibly in middle school. I've always loved reimagined fairy tales, so I figured it was worth a reread.
I wouldn't say that this is my all time favorite fairytale retelling or anything, but I did enjoy it. I didn't mind that there was a lot of backstory in the beginning. I thought it helped to shape Beauty's decisions later in the story. I also liked that Beauty was an unfortunate nickname, in that she wasn't actually particularly beautiful. However, I felt that, especially given the length of the backstory, that more time should have been spent developing her relationship and feelings with the Beast. It wrapped up too quickly in comparison to the set up.
