What would you do if you found your name on a hired killers hit list? Well I’d probably do a lot more running and hiding than Marianne, the main character in The Hit List does!
One year after her husband is killed whilst cycling to work, Marianne is digging around on his laptop where she tumbles down a rabbit hole into the dark web, finding her name on a hit list. Using Greg’s notes she starts to uncover things she didn’t know he was involved in, things that led to her name being on that list.....
This twisty tale covers human trafficking, organ harvesting and illegal immigration. I love seeing a character faced with an almost impossible choice and seeing where it will lead them.
Told from several, different viewpoints over three parts, Holly Seddon’s latest keeps you guessing until the end. A great page turner that will be thoroughly enjoyed by thriller fans.

I was very lucky to take part in a read-along for The Hit List with THE Book Club on Facebook in exchange for an honest review.

Marianne and Greg have a wonderful relationship, and everything seems to be going well until Greg is killed in an accident. We meet Marianne who is now in a new relationship but still grieving. She finds herself going through his laptop and finds his use of the dark web where she finds herself, completely unexpectedly, on a hit list…

The story is told from a number of different perspectives and goes to some very dark places, with lots of twists and turns. The further I read the more I wanted to know. Greg was involved with his work as a charity worker and crosses some lines which make you wonder if you would do the same or not. Doubtless, to say while he is active in rescuing a lot of people, he doesn’t rescue them all and in some cases is instrumental in their demise.

There are quite a lot of characters within the story, with each playing a different role. Many of them have some dark secret that has been discovered and they are exploited in some way because of this to help the work of the underground organisation or to help coerce others to help.

It’s a complicated story full of good and bad and sacrificing some people for others. The ending was very unexpected but felt a little rushed and could have had a little more information but overall was a shocking revelation that I definitely didn’t see coming!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it’s the first I have read by Holly Seddon and won’t be the last.

Thank you to Orion Books, Holly Seddon and THE Book Club for allowing me to have a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this part of a readalong for 100 readers with the book split into 3 parts along 3 weeks.
Part 1 was immediately catchy and I couldn’t wait to read more, I found the second part a bit slow but it had to be due to the nature of the part (you must read to find out more!!!)
The third part was wonderful - I have so much to say but I don’t want to ruin it.
The book looks at the dark web where organs are for sale and assassins are available for hire.
There are lots of twists and turns and I can honestly say I didn’t guess any of them although I had many theories!
I would rate this a 4/5

‘The Hit List’ had me sitting on the edge of my seat biting my nails with anticipation to learn how the story will unfold. This is a must read for any mystery and physiological thriller lovers in need of something to whisk you away from reality. I found myself desperately trying to discover what would happen before the mystery unfolded but it constantly alluded me. Seddon’s cleverly written story gives you enough nuggets of information to make you think you may know where the story is headed but then your thoughts are dashed as she takes the story in a different direction.

The Hit List was my first book by Holly Seddon, and it definitely won’t be my last. I recommend The Hit List to thriller fans.

Thank you NetGalley and Trapeze (Orion) for The Hit List.
