This author has the most beautiful prose. Also lovely atmospheric brooding and perfectly flawed characters. It certainly draws one in to this fantasy world that has a soap opera storyline. The romance seems unworldly and honestly, a little inauthentic, however it is full of emotional hooks, sure to turn every adolescent girls head. I like it despite the grandness of it all, for it does find moments of truth among all the melodrama. And it is so lovely to read, like a Edgar Allan Poe poem. Enjoy.

This is one of those books that ended leaving me very unsure of what I had just finished. According to the author, it is a retelling of the Tam Lin story. A girl rescues her love from the queen of fairies. However it wasn't glaringly obvious that it was based on this folk take/song. It was such a slow beautiful build up and then a quick ending that left me wanting to know more. I finished the book bit sure if I enjoyed it. However I keep thinking about it since I finished it the other day. I am really enjoying my exploration of Patricia McKillip's writing. This was very different from the last one of hers that I read.

Really beautiful, surreal imagery, but paired with dull, flat characters.

I don't really remember much about this book anymore. I remember a crazy winter world filled with nightmares and crazy visuals. One thing, I'm not sure if I liked it or not, was the conclusion. I don't know if I was really tired when I read it, but it felt reallly open ended. Maybe I missed something. I felt like this book was trying to tell me something, I just don't know what...Just like with The Neverending Story. I need to figure them out, because I'm sure once it hits me, it'll be great.

Overall, a good read. There were some parts where I had trouble keeping track of what was happening in the story, so I had to reread some chapters a few times, but the ending was satisfying and I overall enjoyed it.
