There were some things I liked: Silla and Rey really showed growth in their characters, learned from their mistakes and got better and less annoying. Meeting more people who were trust worthy and not just the cut and paste bad guy over and over and over. Learning about the different types of magic that there is was really nice, Harpa was great and there was enough danger to keep things moving even while they were in hiding with each other. Also the spicy scenes are written way less cringy this time. Which is good because there are more of them which would have made having to read them worse
Some things I didn’t like: Saga and Kass are the most aggravating characters known to man kind. It felt like they were supposed to be enemies to lovers but it was unreasonable. Then on top of that neither of them thinks before they do things which makes NO sense for Saga given her situation.
Then there is the fact that Rey never explains how he is the slatrari despite being with the blood axe crew. There’s a throw away thought from Jonas (scum of the earth) who mentions Rey’s late night walks but that does NOT make sense. There is a point in the first book where they are passing another group and the other people tell them to be careful because they just passed NEWLY burned up people. The slatrari had struck again. Rey was with them! It is written in a way that makes it sound like it JUST happened. So either that’s a plot hole the author didn’t think about or I’m never going to get the explanation i want!
I miss the blood axe crew, i hope Jonas is actually dead and and despite the issues i had I’m going to have to read the next book in the series when it comes out lmao.

This was very reminiscent of Throne of Glass, in the best way. It featured two separate stories, and I loved them both equally. They were well paced to where I didn’t feel like I was abruptly cutting back and forth. And just like road of bones, the side-character development was spot on.
This was phenomenal like a second book in a series never is 😍
