Couldve been so good. I wish it took a more scientific approach. It evolved from an objective account helping a woman to hypnotising her for his own gain. Really repetitive and I feel it overstepped the patient-doctor line, he kept treating her and putting her into a trance despite her mental illness being alleviated. It was uncomfy.

1980’s, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. “Catherine,” in her late twenties, disabled by her fears of the dark, drowning, and many other things, comes to talk with Dr. Weiss, Head of Psychiatry. Catherine, who works in at same hospital as a lab technician, has been referred to this particular psychiatrist by hospital staff. Dr. Weiss treats her for a little over a year with nothing helping her to progress further into an emotionally healthier life. That’s when the story changes, Dr. Weiss proceeds to begin treatment with hypnotherapy, and Catherine reveals a distressing experience that happened when she was three years old. Thinking this might be the key, when she returns the following week, her fears are the same. They proceed to dive again, this time with the instruction to go back to the time when her symptoms started.

Past life regression has always held a question mark in my mind, and the parts of the story that Dr. Weiss feels like he needs to validate his experiences with Catherine were probably the least interesting for me. The personal information revealed by Catherine as she moves through her past lives was fascinating, even to the point of chillingly frightening. There are parts of the story that make sense, while others felt far-fetched. Far be it for me to get into the how’s and why’s of hypnotherapy & past life regression, but this book is one that won’t leave my mind any time soon.

Just wow. This book completely enlightened my view of life and death. I am not saying I necessarily believe what the author is preaching, but it introduced me to a new idea that was missing from my life. It gave me a new perspective on which to view the world and my own life. So beautiful yet heartbreaking at the same time. Everyone should read this book. The fact that is was written by an MD makes it so much better and speaks to me on so many different levels. Enter this book with an open mind.

An interesting book on a psychologist’s experiences with past life regression in his hypnotherapy sessions. Very  interesting theories on how past lives can affect future lives.
