When a favourite author and a favourite illustrator combine again - of course I have to have it! Funny words and brilliant detailed pictures.
Stone soup without the racism but WITH pirates and doughnuts. What’s not to love?
An entertaining picture book with rhymes that made me laugh. Some of it was clever, while a few of the rhymes felt a little forced. The illustrations are fun too.

Riddell’s diverse pirates are an absolute treat but I may have to admit that Gaiman just isn’t my cup of tea. The rhyme felt noticeably forced in places and the rhythm was occasionally off. I thought maybe reading quietly was the flaw but even aloud with full gusto voices it just didn’t make me happy. Sold on the concept and art, but not a new favourite for our household
