Wow! What a spectacular ending to a very draining series! While every story should have a happy ending, the path to that ending is often through heart-ache and much loss.

Summary: Time seemed to collapse... There was a sharp stabbing sensation in my stomach... Steve crowed, "Now I have you! Now you're gonna die!"

Dead if he loses - damned if he wins. The time has finally come for Darren to face his archenemy, Steve Leopard. One of them will die. The other will become the Lord of the Shadows - and destroy the world. Is the future written, or can Darren trick destiny?

What I liked about this book: The story truly came full-circle and I enjoyed the path even while cursing [a:Darren Shan|5816|Darren Shan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192947698p2/5816.jpg] for keeping me up at night as I just HAD to finish this book. My favorite part of the book, to be honest, was the description of Darren's death. While [a:J.K. Rowling|1077326|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1261674207p2/1077326.jpg] took her hero through the paces just to have him sacrifice himself for humanity, [a:Darren Shan|5816|Darren Shan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192947698p2/5816.jpg] takes his hero through the depths of hell... on Earth to save humanity from Desmond Tiny's meddling ways. I like that Shan doesn't sugarcoat things in this series. Life, death, gore, blood, guts and glory are all there for you to experience and while much of it should be horrific, it's not. You take it in stride with his hero. It's a war and in wars there are casualties and consequences and sometimes... there's even a winner. What I loved most is the lesson learned at the end... the power of the written word.

I truly enjoyed reading this series and I think I'm going to miss Darren the half-vampire very much.

well....... this book was amazing, the battles, the sacrifices made. Then the ending in my opinion messed it all up.Remember the dissapointment when a book would end with "they woke up and discovered it was all a dream"? well this was the same level of dissapointment, though dont despair, this entire 12 book series you just read was not a dream, the ending simply gave me the same collapsing feeling. I will give it three stars as up to the ultimate fight scene it was perfect. it looses two stars for what happens after that.

The ending is weird, I admit. However, compared to some of the really bad books in this series, I would say that the finale is okay.
Not the ending I was expecting, but okay.

The last book of 12, I was expecting a big showdown. I found what actually happened a little unsatisfying at parts, however it was an ending no body was expecting and is an open minded way of ending a series. It leaves us with hope and some joy, where as if he were to kill the enemy and have that destiny then it would be very distressing.

The events in the book sparked so many emotions. When I started the series I never though of what would happen would happen. It all was steady and separate adventures up to hunters of the dusk, from there there were different tasks but more or less the same goal. I have mixed feelings on this and it brings back a lot of emotions during sons of destiny. This in my opinion makes the ending even better!

The end was probably my favourite part and I think the end is amazing not only to the book but the series!!!!!!

DON'T READ THIS BOOK!
The ending makes it all pointless. Basically an "It was all a dream." ending
Make up your own ending instead.

What a book. What a series. I can’t believe I have reached the end. I devoured all 12 of these books. Cirque Du Freak is one of the most entertaining series I have ever read.

On Sons of Destiny itself, I really really enjoyed this book, but I’m so conflicted on how I like the ending. I’m conflicted, but I also am satisfied???? While I think it’s a great twist,
I also wonder what would’ve happened if Darren had two options to pick from: stay a vampire or go back and change his younger human self’s future. All the twists, especially the fact Mr. Tiny is Darren & Steve’s father????? Like WHAT?????
All the twists were insane!
Especially the fact Mr. Tiny is Darren & Steve’s father????? Like WHAT?????

Overall, I think this is a bittersweet satisfying ending. There is heartache, but also happiness. You can see how ok Darren is about his option. He was able to give himself a second chance at life.

Lastly, all I can say is I loved this series and my time reading it. I can’t recommend it enough.

Honestly felt a bit like a not needed book that ruins some of the "lessons" learned in earlier books.

The weakest ending of any series I have ever read.
