Charlie is excruciatingly obnoxious, so much so that I almost returned the book to the library within the first few chapters. None of the people in this are really likeable or interesting, except
all the talking critters šŸ˜  who are way smarter, more interesting, entertaining, class conscious than any of the humans. Those were the parts I did enjoy. It was very satisfying when the dolphins were hurling insults at Charlie and telling him to shut the fuck up, because that was also what I was doing the whole book. My eyes hurt from rolling so much.  Normally Scalzi manages to pull off the sarcastic humor, but this one was a miss s
and overall just not as pleasant or rewarding as what I expect from Scalzi. I know he was in COVID brain fog while writing this though, so it's understandable that this feels more disjointed than normal. There were parts of this and a few cha acters I loved, but mostly it was just fine.

My only complaint is that the sapient cats were not nearly as big of a plot element as the marketing makes it seem.

Perfect for people who liked Kaiju Preservation Society and Assistant to the Villain.

This book is every bit as much fun as the rest of Scalziā€™s work. Heā€™s one of the few writers who can make me LOL while reading.

I enjoyed John Scalzi's book, 'The Kaiju Preservation Society' last year, but what really made me pick this book up was the cover lol. And the book lived up to the cover! What an absolutely wild and fun ride that was! I was laughing out loud at the ridiculous scenarios but also completely invested in the plot. I loved the book length - 260ish pages meant that the story was boiled down to the best parts. The dolphins and cats were amazing. And I'm glad to know that villains have just as tough of a time with getting each other to unmute themselves on Zoom as the rest of us šŸ˜‚ I will be recommending this book to all my friends and family during the upcoming holiday season!

This Science Fiction book was absolutely fantastic! The premise is insane and the way the story was told was just hilarious. It might not be everyoneā€™s cup of tea but I absolutely loved it!
