Fun book that is unique to anything else I've read recently.

I enjoyed John Scalzi's book, 'The Kaiju Preservation Society' last year, but what really made me pick this book up was the cover lol. And the book lived up to the cover! What an absolutely wild and fun ride that was! I was laughing out loud at the ridiculous scenarios but also completely invested in the plot. I loved the book length - 260ish pages meant that the story was boiled down to the best parts. The dolphins and cats were amazing. And I'm glad to know that villains have just as tough of a time with getting each other to unmute themselves on Zoom as the rest of us 😂 I will be recommending this book to all my friends and family during the upcoming holiday season!

If you like cats, gentle humans, some morally gray characters, and examination of what makes a person villainous, you should read this. I laughed a bunch and felt a few tugs at my heartstrings.

Charlie was a little too good at speechifying given his other character traits and the plot twists were pretty transparent, but this is not a thriller; the twists are not the point. A great story and the perfect length.

4.5 stars. Loved it except for the chapter leading up to the ending. :-\

Otherwise, was funny, lighthearted, imaginative, and full of cats.

Honestly, this was fine and for better or worse had many of the elements that can be found in a typical Scalzi novel, but overall it didn't work for me.
Also, the narration by Wil Wheaton absolutely did not work for me at all. I like Wil just fine, but have no idea what the producers / Wil / others involved in the production were thinking when the decision was made to have Wil overact and insert LOADS of emoting into every single phrase. Including phrases like, "Chapter seven". I could never forget that I was hearing Wil Wheaton read this book, and it took me out of the story and made me irritated enough that I turned it off several times. I felt like I would have enjoyed this book so much more if I'd just read the book instead of choosing the audio version.
