Heaven help me, why do I still read this series? Even worse, I know I'll continue to do so after this one!

There are two concurrent crimes running through this one. There's a rogue cop killing drug dealers. There's a murderer who has killed seven women and left their heads in the garden of a famous actor! Lindsay Boxer investigates both, despite being several months pregnant! Would this even be allowed?

Both storylines are pretty thin. The one about the rogue cop doesn't even come with any surprises or plot twists. Why was it even there? The story about the seven skulls was a bit more interesting, with some okay twists. If they'd beefed up that one and cut out the rogue cop plotline, I might have had something to work with here and rate higher!

Ultimately, this book shoots itself in the foot with the subplot about Lindsay believing her husband Joe has cheated on her. She gets this information in a phone call and NEVER ONCE takes a minute to get her husband's side of the story! This is the sort of Big Misunderstanding you would expect from a cheap, really bad 80s Harlequin book, not a big bestseller that charges considerable coin for you to buy! Lazy, lazy, lazy! And when Lindsay continued to bang on and on an ON about this betrayal, I just wanted to give her a slap. It made me get very fed up with the book and I struggled to finish the remaining 100 pages or so! (Not good if you're reading a mystery!)

Very weaksauce. I'll have to wait a few months before I inevitably read "12th Of Never".

Despite Lindsay repeating over and over again that these Heads in the Garden were some of the creepiest/weirdest stuff she's seen, I didn't get that from this book at all. It felt very ho-hum. This series has been losing steam. I was eagerly awaiting the book to be over, just so I would be finished and have my mild curiosity satisfied about the killers.

One big thing that annoyed me was the whole sub-plot about Lindsay and Joe.
SpoilerI cannot STAND it when a character just jumps to such HUGE, LIFE-altering conclusions and won't even allow the other person to explain before cutting off all contact. I felt zero sympathy for her, because she made all that shit up in her head and wallowed willingly when she could've just listened to Joe's explanation. Yes, Jane lying didn't help and maybe Joe's explanation would've been, "Yeah, I cheated, sorry" but then she could at least know for sure and stated to move on.
It was a cheap ploy by the authors to drag out a lame, sensational sub-plot, and it fell completely flat on its face with me. Ugh.

Not sure if I'll be reading the next one. I haven't read too much Patterson (with there being just so much of it), and I've had some of his older 'popular' series in my to-read list for awhile...but I don't know now if I ever will read them. Maybe he once made a decent effort at writing...but this certainly wasn't it.

This was a really good book. Not too unpredictable, but had some parts that surprised me. I need to start reading these (Women's Murder Club) in order. :)

Borrowed from a friend who is moving, couldn’t justify hanging onto it to finish when they were packing so soon.

Reading a series with this many books in it makes writing reviews hard. You end up just saying the same thing over and over, so I have just starred a few of them. Anyway, this was another fantastic book!
