This book had a really good premise but it dragged to much for me and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. It wasn't horrible but it lost my attention a couple of times in the beginning. The story picked up at the end and that is when it finished abruptly. I really wanted to like this one but I am not sure if I will continue with this series......

This idea had potential but the way it was handled in this book just wasnt for me.

If the second book was already out I would likely have picked it up to see if this series got any better. As it isnt I will probably never read it - this one didnt interest me enough to wait and watch for the next release.

I wasn't a huge fan of this. I've read other books by the author (Ministry of Curiosities) and I do like them. But this was a bit different. It wasn't bad, but it was missing something. It didn't hook me the same way the other books did.

I also didn't like the instalove happening in the book. She was having feelings for him so quickly, before they even met properly. No idea who the man is, what kind of person he is but she is already in love. Well, that's not actually love, right? But you'll get the idea.

I guess

I skimmed a lot. I do not think I will be going further in the series. Not something I enjoyed a lot. I wasn't engrossed in it enougj.

Hannah Smith has lived most of her life in isolation as companion to en Earl's daughter, when she is abducted by mistake, she finds herself at Freak House, a place where those with abilities are trained.

Thinking she is saving her friend, Hannah takes on her identity but soon finds that there is more to Freak House than she first expected.

This was an okay listen, but the story and character development were not at their best. I've enjoyed most of CJ Archer's series, but while this one was enjoyable, it wasn't her at her best. But still fun read all the same.

Sadly not sure what to say about this story, it was neither amazing nor bad. To note, what could of and maybe was/is a great book but I wasn't in the mood for it. While i don't feel i wasted my time reading it; it's nothing i'll probably ever read again, nor read the rest in the series. Despite my lack of love for really any of the characters, although Hannah was better than others, i may yet still recommend it to others.

ARC from NetGalley

A decent gothic thriller, some good supernatural elements and well set up for the rest of the series. This one introduces all the characters and their backstories. I would read the rest in the series to see what happens next for Hannah, Jack, Syl, Tommy and Dr Gladstone who reside at Freak House. Lots of potential here!
