I feel bad for giving this a pretty low rating. Don’t get me wrong, I cried twice while reading this book. It was off to a slow start, which is how every book is. It picked up a lot; I almost gave this a 3.5 to 4 ⭐️ rating, but then the ending happened. Lol. For the life of me, I didn’t care about the background information of almost every actor in the movie. I am sorry. Why would I care about that? I didn’t sign up to read anything about them. I also didn’t need to read an interview about each actor being questioned on things I didn’t care about. This book was very moving for me, but I am disappointed. I guess I assume this story would be told in a different way. It wasn’t

Every page gave me goosebumps. Reading it felt like I was there while Bethany's sharing the feeling. It was so alive. One may not have the same experience with Bethany's but anyone, I believe, can relate to the feeling even in a different situation. It is veryinspirational and so near to God's heart for everyone.

I had no idea this girl was as amazing as she is! I knew she had been through a lot, but I never knew she was so strong in her Christian faith. It was a fast read that's so worth it! I also enjoyed the 5 year update at the end of the book (since this book was written 5+ years ago) and the movie journal she has that talks about the movie that came out last month. If I had known this book was out, I would have read it years ago! My hubby is reading it now. I just love how this girl chose to face her trials. She's an amazing girl. :)

Despite the title, I think a large population of readers wanted this book to be a little more descriptive account of the actual attack and recovery of Bethany Hamilton.

This book is written by a 14-year old and I think those expectations should be laid out a little sooner. There was plenty of views about people from other areas and places that were clearly given to her by her parents and faith members, giving me a little PTSD from my catholic school days. Don't patronize me, telling me what I as a main-lander thinks...

The book told a story about different aspects of her life: her faith, her parents, the movie that was made about her. I feel mean criticizing a story put together by a 14-year old but I think she has a great story - one that was laid out pretty well in the movie and I wanted to know more about when I picked up the book. This book was not the gap-filler I was looking for but merely a pieced-together life story of a kid who has been through something we have nightmares about.

What an amazing story! Bethany Hamilton is truly and inspiration and just shows how faith, positive, thinking, and resilience and move a person over any obstacle. I appreciated how Bethany explained surfing lingo and the locations around Hawaii. She seems like such a mature young adult. I would recommend this book to anyone, it is a must read.
