I never read this book when I was younger but remember it being popular. At first, I was surprised by some of the language and gory content that middle schoolers were the targeted audience. As I continued reading the book, the fantasy element took over and the reading population made more sense. It took me a while to get into the book, but it was interesting and left on a cliff hanger. Though I am curious, I likely will not read the sequel.

This book was VERY hard to put down. Most of the characters were really good! I think Teresa and Chuck were my favorites. Thomas and Minho were also pretty good.
I about cried when Chuck died. The fact that he died sacrificing himself for Thomas plus Thomas' reaction was so sad!! It was still a good book though.

I’m one of the people who’ve seen the movie first, so the whole thing was spoiled from the beginning. Still, I loved the book mostly because of the plot, it is very different from other dystopias I’ve read, and the ending is amazing and frustrating at the same time.
One thing I didn’t quite like: how much and how fast Thomas likes Teresa, he’s a puppy from the moment she shows up and it bothered me for some reason. Maybe because I know what’s going to happen in the next book…

I picked this book up because I needed a break from a pretty depressing book while I was going through a stressful period. As an adult reader I can't say it's brilliant, it's a bit transparent and a lot of it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it was certainly entertaining and helped me shake off the morbs. Pretty solid all in all, but I don't think you need to have read the book to get the premise and understand what people are referencing when it gets brought up.
