Yeah...well...uhm...tough one.
I really liked it for the first two thirds. It was exciting, it was fun, it didn't contain a stupid love story (thank you!). I thought I might love it. Especially when some theories by my friend showed up and made sense - character names and stuff.
The language of the Gladers however was too Gangsterlike for me in the beginning. Took me a while to get used to it and I can't say I really liked it. But it was something to get used to.
Either way...then came the point when it got boring. They started to figure things out way too easily. Things got obvious - things they couldn't figure out within two years and then bam, hello. A bit unrealistic. Memories were brought up but never really mentioned. I guess I'll find out about those in the next book. But still, it leaves you with too many questions. And then comes the end and in my opinion unnecessary stuff happens.
Many many questions left open - but I got the other two books already and maybe I will find my answers in those. 3 stars from me.

I really thought I would have liked this more than I did but ultimately it was still an entertaining adventure with some good plot twists. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.

I don't care what anyone says, my reading experience with this was great.
I kept reading ONLY so I could find out how it ended. I guess I didn't want to give up. I feel like the characters did for most of this book and not in a good way.
That's to say that the characters are tired, worn out and their only motivation to press on is to get to the end and for their situation to be over. I felt like I kept pressing on in the book so I could get to the end and it would finally be over.
Waste of time.

Nothing like the book series I had a instagram fan account for as a middle schooler to get you out of a reading slump. I have never DNFd a series but needed a break from Magnolia Parks so I’m letting Maze Runner work its magic. Nothing will beat the feeling of nostalgia this book gives me. Also… the concept???? Amazing. Unbeatable.
This review is for the whole series. I didn't love this book, but my husband did who never reads. I don't know, this book was really bloody and I thought that most of the time it was unnecessary. I felt like the story became more about who's arm is going to get blasted of next instead of what this mean about humans. Violence is ok, but only when it contributes to the real meaning of the story. But I would totally recommend this for guys... its a total guy book.
My big problem with this book is the writing. I think the movie could easily be better than the book since, as it is a visual medium, the director could make changes so that the viewer will not be aware of the original writing. I hope the film changes the language and slang of the characters, allowing them to sound like actual people instead of the cardboard cut-outs of the book.
In spite of the bad writing and laughably stereotypical characters, I kept reading the book because of the interesting plot and universe. I probably won't read the second book though.
I recommend The Maze Runner to fans of dystopia (because the universe is very interesting) that either have patience or are quick readers.
