This book is intense. Point blank. Intense. Is it also annoying mysterious and severely lacking in any information and keeps the reader annoyingly in the dark until the last three chapters, yes literally the last three chapters? Yes. But is it all worth it? Yes! This messed up, sickeningly frustrating story is one that should be read. Just keep going. Just push through! The only complaint is the complete lack in information that you get in the book, I would have liked a whole lot more world creation then the itty-bitty tid-bits we got, and that is the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars. But I believe the next one will answer all my questions….well it better.
This is an amazing start to an intriguing tale. If you're looking for a dystopian story to hook you from the first page, you got it.

Compelling post-apocalyptic YA fiction. I was absolutely hooked and immediately read the two sequels (which were a little disappointing, tbh). I wish there were more hints and revelations about what was really going on, although when such details were revealed in subsequent books they weren't as thoughtful or in-depth as I had hoped. Great for fifth grade and up, but quite violent and somewhat gory.

The first book to my third favourite series. Love the concept and plot twists that come along with it. Your mind definitely goes through a maze while reading the book. The characters are so admirable and even the ones you don’t like in the beginning you love at the end of the series.

I've not read this series before but I enjoyed the films so I definitely had the bulk of the spoilers. Funnily enough I felt less attached to the characters in book form. Also found Thomas mildly irritating, as he instantly just assumes everyone else is an idiot from the get-go...
