Right off the bat I’m invested in Celaena, and I think part of that was starting AB first. I laugh and snicker at her love of getting under someone’s skin and her bluntness lol. I love how she’s always staying up late reading. I also relate with her that the few friends she makes often disappoint, but I was happy to see she finally has made some true friends in this one. I was proud of her for focusing on her future and not wanting to attach herself in relationships that would be distracting and bad politically, but I also really wanted some smut, the tension was there… I suppose the plot and pacing were fine without it. Im team #Chaol tho, fight me.

Upon reread I would still give Throne of Glass 4 out of 5 stars. Being in the head of our protagonist, Celaena Sardothien was very annoying at times. She could be hypocritical and the author expressed her thoughts with exclamation points all the time which got tiring. Celaena kept talking about how these assassins and criminals are no match for her(Adarlans Assassin as we are repeatedly reminded) but that doesn't change the fact that it was more told to me than shown. I enjoyed the plot and most of the characters but the world-building was just ok. Sarah J Maas has a lot of potential for improvement in the later books but from what I remember of the other books was that it was a rollercoaster and whirlwind to get through. Overall really enjoyed it. It was a nostalgic read.

I am rereading this series in preparation for Kingdom of Ash, the final book in the Throne of Glass series.

I really enjoyed this book it was fast pace with very loveable characters. I love love love love a strong female main character and this book delivered, Celaena I cannot wait to see what you get up to in the next book.

Interestingly, I would have said before I read this that I was NOT a love triangle trope fan however I have really really enjoyed this book. I wouldn’t say it’s my fave trope and I am still feeling emotional for both love interests as I just really don’t want to see any of them get hurt, however, I really am not rooting for anyone more than the other atm and love the relationships both separately. I am interested to see how my feelings towards this trope develop and how i feel later in the series. Really pleased to have got to see this trope play out as the last thing I saw with this was Twilight.

I am in love with the found friendship between nehemia and Celaena and I hope to see lots more of it, having friendships like this with 2 strong female characters is one of my fave things in books. I am also very intrigued to learn more about the magic system in the book.

Let’s go book 2!!
