Charlamagne tha God is one of biggest names in the radio/music industry currently with his very successful radio show the breakfast club where he talks about hip hop and interviews people from different backgrounds- mostly hip hop artists though- even politicians have come on the breakfast club.

Anyway, this not about the breakfast club, but rather about Charlamagne tha God's book black privilege, which I got on Audible just to listen to Charlamagne narrate it himself, which was good he did a great job narrating. The book talks about life lessons from Charlemagne's life and his values and experiences, which for the most part is interesting, seeing how he went from a thug who got kicked out of school to one of the most famous radio personalities is fascinating.

There are some things I didn’t like though, first a lot of times his advice come off a bit too preachy for my liking like he is 100% right and the other thing is despite being a short listen I was burnt out by the end of, which sucks because I wanted to get his other book, but it is on hold for now.

If you enjoy this genre of books I would recommend black privilege, it is a fun listen, but there isn’t anything special about it. 7/10

It was very easy to follow the message Charlamagne was conveying. His stories were hilarious and sometimes it felt like I having a one to one conversation with him rather than reading them out of a book. This book has a lot of great insight of the “industry” and overall left me feeling empowered and ready to live my truth. Great pick up! 🖤

Entertaining audiobook: read by the author, a radio personality. The advice dispensed is at times shallow and demonstrative of a lack of understanding. For example, I especially disagree with his idea that we should treat others like we ourselves want to be treated. What’s the problem with the golden rule? He is OK with being treated roughly, with people being really direct, confrontational, and harsh with him. But to think it’s ok to treat everyone else the same way is immature, projecting, and ultimately limiting. He’s got his head on straight in many other ways, so I don’t mean this one criticism to overshadow the good aspects of the book.

I most liked the part about the five percenters. Didn’t know about that movement by name, but have heard many of the preachings. Now I’m a little less ignorant.

This title can feel misleading—it can seem to echo the tired bootstrap refrain that as a society we've since realized is not on the level. But this book is not that. Charlamagne approaches the conversation of privilege with nuance and insight; his life journey is fascinating. Everyone could benefit and gain valuable insight and perspective from reading this book.
