my first mieko kawakami book and i really liked it! it was so heartbreaking and unsettling but also relatable in a lot of ways :)

So disappointing. I liked the first half of the book but during the second half I started disliking it more and more. I don’t think this author actually understands how real people think and operate. I was already really annoyed by the ideas presented about bullying and suffering but the last two chapters were just terrible. The resolution, if you can even call it that, was bad.

It did affect me emotionally so I will give the book points for that.

Compelling and quietly devastating from beginning to end. I was randomly thinking about Breasts and Eggs the other day, how that was one of the standout books I read last year and how much I loved the feeling of Kawakami's writing, so when I was browsing the book shop today and came across Heaven I decided to buy it. I don't know if I've ever bought, started and finished a book all in one day before, but there's a first time for everything, I guess!
