a slow, tense read. definitely builds up in tone and suspense; and being written as a pseudo-film/documentary about a defunct cult that's still haunting its 'apostate' members in more ways than one was unique and helped to break up the main mystery being explored into digestible pieces. the tone really shifts in the last 100 or so pages, and a lot of plot points are kind of crammed together at once, but everything before that is solid enough to carry the chaos that was the ending.

"Last Days" was a pretty scary book. There were actually times when I had to put this one down because I wanted to sleep that night. Adam Nevill's story focuses on Kyle, a documentary filmmaker who is struggling financially until an unusual man provides him with a seemingly perfect job opportunity: a fully-funded and production of a documentary film about the infamous cult The Temple of the Last Days. All trips to the filming locations have been planned, interviews have been scheduled, and all creative decisions are left up to Kyle. But Kyle comes to realize that the horrors experienced by the few surviving members are still haunting them, in a very real and dangerous way. Should he seek to uncover the truth, or should he back out? What if it's too late? If you are looking for something to make your skin crawl, this book is it! I made the mistake of trying to read this book before bed, and it made falling asleep some nights a bit difficult. This is a long book, but I thought it was worth the time.
