The duet narration by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross is so perfect for Adriana Locke's books! They always bring just the right amount of fun and sexy, but they also pack an emotional punch too. I loved this short and sweet novella about Cross and Kallie and it sets up the next book perfectly!

*Note: The audiobook does not contain the short stories Restraint and Crash.

*****

I really enjoyed this novella when it was part of the Team Player anthology, but I loved it this time around! The additional chapters and details really connects the story with the Gibson Boys series, but it can still be enjoyed as a stand alone.

Cross is a sexy and sweet childhood sweethearts second chance romance. Cross may not be a Gibson (he's Machlan Gibson's best friend), but he is just as sexy and charming. I fell in love with him and Kallie right from the start and couldn't help but root for them to find a way back to each other even when old fears and insecurities resurface. I don't know what it's like to grow up/live in a small town, but I imagine the gossip and having everyone up in your business would be extremely difficult. Like all Adriana Locke books, there are lots of laughs and steamy times, but also wonderful supporting characters too (loved Nora). I wish that it was longer because I couldn't get enough of these two, but I'm really excited for Machlan's book next!

This novella also features 2 short stories set in the Gibson Boys world. The first is Restraint, which is about Blaire Gibson, and the second is Crash, which is about Kallie's friend, Nora. Though they were previously available (I think as part of another collection or newsletter), this was the first time I was reading them and they left me wanting MORE!!! I loved getting to know Blaire better and I definitely need more of Holt and the rest of the Mason brothers! The Landry crossover was the best and the quick cameo by Lincoln made my day! ;) I also loved the quick glimpse we got of Nora and sexy sheriff Kip. There is a lot more story to tell with these characters and I will keep my fingers crossed that Adriana Locke already has these in the works!

*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Cross & Kallie
Now even though he's more of an honorary Gibson brother, there wasn't much about him in the previous books. But holy moly, taking about smoking boxer!!! I'm glad Kallie was able to trust him because losing out on that real love sucks.

Blair & Holton
Absolutely loved their chemistry!!!! "What do you do for fun?... Work" talk about two perfectly aligned people. Makes me wish and hope they run into each other again.

Nora & Kip
Poor Nora, being great friends with all the hot guys in town. Gotta love the guilty pleasures. Keeping my fingers crossed she'll talk about feelings eventually.

Quick read

The story of Cross and Kallie is a good quick read. Cross is a friend of Machlan Gibson and Kallie is the 'one who got away'.
At the end of the book there was a further two short stories. One was about Blaire Gibson, sister of the Gibson boys. The other was about Nora, who works at Crave and Kip the local Sheriff. I hope both of these stories will be getting their own book or at the very least written into upcoming books, because I am intrigued.

This one was a novella
So it wasn’t as dramatic as the rest of the series but I will still so invested in the characters!

My only complaint is that it was too short and didn’t have enough character development. I wanted more tension, but with a novella I can’t blame ya!

I'm biased and I tend to hate novellas, so that's why this got a lower review. Still not a fan of all the male leads being promiscuous. I think probably because it's mentioned constantly. Also, not a fan of taken men that we've met talking about past hook ups. *cough* Looking at you Walker. *cough*

I am a sucker for a second chance romance. This story struck me in the feels as well. I couldn't help but to root for Kallie to let go of her insecurities and past hurt and let Cross back in her heart. I was a little irritated with Kallie for jumping to conclusions and making assumptions again, but thankfully she came to her senses.

I absolutely loved Cross so much - the fact that he was doing things around the house for Kallie's mom to help her out made me swoon so hard, especially after all these years. He is an all around good and decent guy and it is obvious that he has changed from the way he used to be. He is fun, flirty, and you can practically picture his crooked grin that I'm sure melts everyone's hearts.

I also enjoyed the short stories that were included in the back of this novella.

Second-chance romance in the land of the Gibson Boys? Yes, please. CROSS takes place not long before CRANK, Addy's most recent release, and the first in her Gibson Boys series. So, we get to see many of the characters that we already know and love, PLUS, one sexy boxer named Cross Jacobs.

Second-chance love stories are some of my favorite, and when it's got characters that I know and love, and is written by an author that is one of of my go-tos, I know that I'm going to love what I'm reading. Addy has the ability to craft stories that always draw me in, and Kallie's and Cross's story is no exception. Having read CRANK, I was already completely invested in the folks on Linton, Illinois, and getting to go back for another visit was a treat. Kallie and Cross are two people that are just meant to be together, and, once they start to communicate and appreciate what they have in each other, there's no keeping them apart.

CROSS is a n easy 4.5 star read for me, and I am happy to recommend it, and the reset of the books in Adriana's Gibson Boys series as well.
