I never read this book in school. It was so sweet and intriguing all the way through. The characters felt real and even though it’s a short middle-grade book, there were enough unexplained things to keep interest. Very sweet.

It's been a very long time since I've read this book so I can't remember too many details about it. What I remember is the emotion it brought out in little reading obsessed Jennifer. I read and re-read this book repeatedly and I remember it making me so sad when I did. That to me means it had to have been a good book, I'm not the type to voluntarily cry (I HATE Lifetime movies ffs) so if I chose to do so repeatedly there was a reason.

I liked this one, but not as much as many of you. I'm not sure why. This should have been a book I loved, but I had a hard time connecting with it.

Another grade school favorite I forgot about. Probably my favorite one that I was taught in elementary school and it was taught by the first teacher who inspired me to write, write, write. I read it again in 8th grade from a choice of five other books and, knowing I'd read this book before, I chose it so I didn't have to do as much reading; I certainly didn't know I was going to end up rereading the whole thing anyway...twice.

This was all the rage growing up; everyone in my school read it. I remember there was a waiting list for taking it out of the library. A lovely, sad story. Something to read right on the edge of childhood, reluctantly going forward. I must have re-read this every summer for about 4 years. Bits of the story stand out- moments of humour and sadness, little intimate details from the characters lives. The grandparents and their marriage bed; the mother kissing trees. One to consider passing onto the young children in my family as they get older.
