Can I call this the perfect science fiction novel? It wasn't too long, the descriptions really made the reader (or in my case listener) imagine what this futuristic Earth was like with future evolutions of humans, plot twist at the end, TIME TRAVEL. I mean seriously, it doesn't get much better than this. I'm also under the impression the Eloi and Morlocks are among us today. I mean, look at the US government.

Much cool.
Not exact;y what i expected.
I expected, frankly, something more, ... down-to-earth?
Like i expected the time frame to be with a couple human lifetimes or something, like two or three centuries.

Still very nice though.
--------------------

to be honest, i expected something more ... relevant, more ... visionary, more thoughful? though that could be needlessly uncharitable, but just not the type of societal commentary i wanted
I wouldn't say i found it incredibly boring i will just say that it was ... incredibly dry, no personality though i guess there wasn't even the attempt

This is a really good book. But be aware it is a book of its time which is why I have given it 3 stars. I was uncomfortable with the white saviour complex, the judgement of other races and culture from a Victorian White man, some unnecessary racism. It was very Victorian in its views on race, culture and what makes a society. Yes it was written 100 years ago but that doesn't mean I have to like it or let it slide.

Can I also add that the Time Traveller is a dick. He's just unlikeable, inconsiderate (racist, a coloniser etc.) and not relatable. He is academically smart, but has 0 common sense which just makes him come across as an idiot (at least to me).

Once you get used to the writing it is well written though, and engaging to read. And it is amazing to read and see the influence this book has on science fiction. It reminded me of one of the episodes of Stargate-SG1, Star Trek and Farscape. As a science fiction fan this is a must read!
