If I am being honest, I did not find anything special about this book. Nonetheless it was a very entertaining read and think that it was very enjoyable. Their were some very defining moments in the novel but altogether I found the novel to be a little cheesy... It is YA though, so I guess I should have seen that coming.
Zombies again. Having never read and really avoided zombie books I've recently been reading a lot of them! I mean who wants to read about rotting flesh and dead things trying to bite you and there's something about the word 'flesh' that I hate... but yet I really enjoyed this book.
I found it difficult at first separating it from The Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy as that is also set in a dystopian future in a world full of zombies. And I have to say compared with The Forest of Hands and Teeth it does pale in comparison. Both books are set in a small village with zombies in the wilderness surrounding the village through a fence.
However, the comparison stops there.
I really enjoyed this book, I liked the friendship of the four young characters, and the addition of the mysterious Lilah. The book ended well with enough curiosity about the next one to make me want more! Also I stayed up until 2am to finish the book so it must have been good.
I saw quite a few Buffyverse lines throughout the book and was wondering if the author was a Buffy fan or just a big thinker like Joss Whedon is!

Realized pretty quickly this was YA and pretty early YA - oops - I don’t want to ding it just because I’m more mature than the intended reader. 4 stars for action and storytelling but - yah - not really intended for adults, despite falling into the zombie apocalypse genre.
Zombies. I could barely get through “Pride & Prejudice + Zombies”, and I can’t even stand a Walking Dead commercial. Zombies are my least favorite sci-fi/supernatural/whatever creature. But this book... they’re still my least favorite but now to a lesser extent.
This book started off a little slow, but once the plot got going I really enjoyed it. The portrayal of the un-dead is actually really good, the characters are well written— although the romance felt a little forced... I was in full favor of it at the end, though. Also, the plot twist at the end had me surprised?? Like, yeah, it was obvious in hind-sight, but gosh... I don’t usually curse but i was mumbling “ohhh shit” in excitement over and over again...
Also, can I get a round of applause for the badass characters?? Young AND old, male AND female??

This is a very interesting book, and a great start to the series. I absolutely love that it is a zombie survival story in the point of view of a young boy. I don't read many books like this, but I absolutely loved this book.
