A re-issue of the No Man's Land story with some more characters added in. I liked most of the additions, but Azrael's issues were pretty boring. So, some good and some bad added.

I liked this story, just not as much as Cataclysm.

I'm also not a huge Scarecrow fan and he played a big role in this book, I just didn't get as into it as I wanted to.

Yet, I'm still going to read the next volume in the series and hope it gets better because the premise of Gotham picking up after a catastrophic earthquake is really interesting.

I'm personally angry at this book because I bought it thinking it was going to be part 1 of a 2-part re-release of the NML storyline, previously released in the form of 5 trades. Sadly, this is an expanded version that, while cheap, is still part of a 4 or 5-part series. Because of the expansion to include other lines (like Azrael) it ends up being really uneven in the quality of the writing and art, and is overall just too damn long and winding.

The no man's land saga has finally begun , as people leave Gotham there are still many who opt to stay at the city , now named No Man Land . However having lost faith in the Justice system and having his face smeared with defeat Bruce Wayne or Batman is away from Gotham . Batman's absense spreads chaos around the City . Until Batman returns to find the way of living in Gotham has changed

The book isn't entertaining , if you are looking for that , this book isn't for you . But it gives a new outlook on how the world can work when savages rule it . How sometimes a fruit matters more than a costly digital device

The whole system of villains and cops taking over lands and fighting over there sector is fascinating . There is a lot of action but for most part Batman isn't present in them .

Over all it's a dark story that displays primitive nature of Gotham's occupants . I liked it

A good storyline and solid cast of characters. It explores Gotham in a new way and makes me want to read more in the series. Quite enjoyed it.

IMO, Batman is at his best with some philosophy and social commentary mixed in. This book has it in spades.

In Cataclysm, Gotham is devastated by a massive earthquake, leading the city to be isolated from the rest of the world and condemned by the US Government as a lost cause. Most people are evacuated, but there are some too afraid or too resolute to give up on their city.
Now it is a place of utter danger, with gangs vying for territory like armies, and the Gotham City Police Department waging a guerrilla war to reclaim the city. But Batman is nowhere to be seen. Bruce Wayne attempted to save the city with appeals to Congress, and when that failed, he felt as though he'd failed Gotham. Some other heroes must rise in his place until he is ready to return and avenge Gotham.
This is an epic event, really well done in its look at human nature after a life-changing cataclysm, as well as the lengths some people will go to preserve humanity.

3.5. Almost an anthology, the stories all occur after Gotham has been demolished by an earthquake and cut off from the rest of the world. Some stories definitely hit harder than others. Mixed bag, but more good than bad.

I'm not sure what exactly it was that kept me from enjoying this as much as I thought I would. I've loved all the other work by Greg Rucka that I've come across...ah. I see. The compilation of stories in this aren't all by Greg Rucka. That explains why it just didn't seem to mesh very well. Different writers, different illustrators; just didn't work all that much for me.

Gotham City has been hit by an earthquake. The government tried to evacuate the populace, but not everyone left...some couldn't, and others didn't believe that the government would truly abandon them. For some reason, Gotham has been isolated. Nothing...people or goods...can come in or out. (I thought I was starting at the beginning of the story w/ these, but apparently not. Something to do w/ Nick Scratch, a character I'm not familiar with.) Batman has disappeared & it's up to the remaining police force to try to re-establish some law & order...or at least justice & order. Different sections of Gotham have fallen under the power of different gangs & villains. When Batman returns, he finds that the people have changed. Freedom isn't the most important thing in their lives. They want food & protection, regardless of who is giving it to them.

Another gripe is the storyline about Azrael. I honestly don't know this guy, but we're thrown into the (apparent?) middle of his storyline. I found it frustrating.

I'm going to give the subsequent editions a chance...mostly because I've already borrowed them from the library.
