After the death of her mother, the bold and headstrong Mary Yellan goes to live with her aunt and uncle at Jamaica Inn in order to fulfil her mother’s dying wish.
Over the years the inn has garnered a bad reputation and it’s owner Joss Merlyn (Mary’s uncle) is feared by all! Here she is at first a spectator to the unlawful activities (smuggling) taking place on certain nights at the inn. Ultimately she gets entangled in the questionable goings on of the place.
