I liked this book a lot more then I thought I would. It’s been sitting on my shelf for a long time and finally decided to pick it up. The ending had no right to make me cry like that. I loved the premise and the elves and magic system. Overall a good read!

I want to say I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. If you’re in the mood for a simple, predictable story, then A Deal with the Elf King is perfect for you. If you want something deeper, more mythical and more complex than you should skip this series. I don’t know if I’ll continue with Married to Magic.

waaa that was wonderful! i definitely recommend this for a lighthearted, low stakes standalone fantasy !!! i always felt like reading it if i had time but it also didn’t feel so high stakes that i just needed to keep reading, which is sometimes what u need when ur super busy w work, yknow?

the main thing i wanna say is that the writing style had me a little confused? i wasn’t sure if i liked it or not in the beginning but it grew on me. at times, it was very generic and cliche but because i was so fond of the characters, i really didn’t mind!
”Eldas wears a bright smile. But his eyes are heartbreakingly sad.” (263)

I enjoyed the pacing of this book a lot and the second half just felt really bittersweet, in a really good way! Like I was the perfect amount of invested into the story and the world of Midscape. The world building and the magic was also really intricate and fun to me, like I just loved the storyline as a whole and the way the two main characters were created as foils to each other. Like it was so typical but sogood.
“He has one foot in the Beyond. I have one foot in the world of life.” (242)

I really liked Luella as a protagonist. I liked that her resolve was strong in the beginning, and that she didn’t give in to the king right away:
“He looks nothing like a king right now. He looks like a man. A tired and weary man.
Then I remember how he used my true name against me to treat me like a puppet and any sympathy evaporates.” (87)

Because of her being a strong protagonist, that also made me enjoy the development from enemies(?) to lovers so much more! their relationship developed So well to me and just gahhhh i loved them so much as characters

”He gives a nod to the box. ‘Are you going to open it?’
‘Perhaps. Say please?’
‘Kings don’t say please.’ He looks at me through his long lashes with a lazy smirk, arms folded across his chest.” (223)

also! i love hook. i needed to get that in there. maybe it’s my werewolf phase from wattpad but like he was just such a loveable side character/pet? and i loved the incorporation of hook into the storyline! it was so cute and just symbolic to me!!!!!!

overall! it’s lighthearted books like these that remind me of why i love reading. i felt so joyful while reading this like it just gave me the nostalgia of how i used to read while in middle school? like the fact that this is my first long review in a while says a lot, i think : D

i would say 4.75/5 and def recommend for something fantasy but not heavy w/ a good side romance!! < 3

Good book! More YA than I usually like but other than that I was a good read.
