This was so fun! I originally read this series back in like grades 6-8, but saw some of them at a thrift store recently and decided to do a re-read and man this was good

It's a little dated and a bit cliche, and I can see now that it's clearly heavily Buffy-inspired, but it works well and I'm not mad at it. I just really liked it, maybe partially because of a nostalgia factor, but also just because it was a good read. Meg Cabot probably doesn't need me to give her her flowers, but I will anyway. She's a good fucking writer! Everything flows really nicely and the characters are engaging and loveable! I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this! It got me out of a reading slump that I felt coming on after a couple of meh reads!

I was worried Suze might be unlikeable, but imo Meg Cabot does a good job of making her a bit of an angsty teenager without being over the top and unbearable. She clearly loves her mom and it was really nice to see her overall get along with and start to form relationships with her step-dad and step-brothers. Really looking forward to reading the next one!
