This was so fun! I originally read this series back in like grades 6-8, but saw some of them at a thrift store recently and decided to do a re-read and man this was good

It's a little dated and a bit cliche, and I can see now that it's clearly heavily Buffy-inspired, but it works well and I'm not mad at it. I just really liked it, maybe partially because of a nostalgia factor, but also just because it was a good read. Meg Cabot probably doesn't need me to give her her flowers, but I will anyway. She's a good fucking writer! Everything flows really nicely and the characters are engaging and loveable! I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this! It got me out of a reading slump that I felt coming on after a couple of meh reads!

I was worried Suze might be unlikeable, but imo Meg Cabot does a good job of making her a bit of an angsty teenager without being over the top and unbearable. She clearly loves her mom and it was really nice to see her overall get along with and start to form relationships with her step-dad and step-brothers. Really looking forward to reading the next one!

I loved this book as a teenager and wanted to re-read when I saw on Libby. This book has some parts that really did not age well.

This is still one of my favorite series from when I was a kid! I reread it every few years, & it’s like stepping back in time, back to carefree days. I fall right back into the story! & fall in love with Suze & Jesse all over again!

this book did not age well it’s writing is not good but also it’s just like pretty problematic in the handling of sensitive issues (sexuality, weight, suicide, etc.) also the use of a homophobic slur several times.

A nice re-read. I loved these books as a young teen. However, it’s now quite dates and there is use of a homophobic slur at one point.

This was one of my favourite books as a teen and it’s still one of my favourites as an adult. I love the relationship and the banter between Suze and Jesse. I also very much love the fun supernatural elements.
