Amy and Ryan's connection is the epicenter of this story as it takes you through a valley of emotions, hopes, frustrations and grief. I loved every single moment of it while reading it. I was hoping Amy could recollect her experience at the end but I knew it would no happen. Regardless, this is a beautiful take on spirits, ghosts and local folklore. A must read.

The Lighthouse by Christopher Parker was on my DNF list for almost two years. Let me tell you guys that I was really missing out on a great story by leaving it on the DNF pile. I finally picked it back up in January.

Amy Tucker and her father are trying to put their lives back together after Amy’s mother dies. It has been a struggle for both of them. Mr. Tucker takes a short-term job in Seabrook to help his friend do some investigative work.

Seabrook has an old haunted lighthouse that has suddenly started to shine its light. Amy gets the details from Ryan, the son of a local ranch owner. They met under somewhat odd circumstances but still struck up a friendship.

Since her dad has left Amy on her own for the evening, Ryan gives her a tour of the town and the ranch. Ryan has his own problems that he tells Amy about. I think helping someone else helps Amy to forget about her grief for a little while.

Amy does begin to notice that something is off with this town. She cannot find her dad. Her phone calls aren’t going through to anyone. Her taxi driver leaves her out in the middle of nowhere. A young girl saves her from the townspeople that are acting weird and creepy.

The girl tells her to go to the lighthouse and all will be revealed. Amy does make it to the lighthouse and cannot believe the story she hears. She doesn’t know if she will be able to help. So she takes a leap of faith. I cannot tell you anything else or it will ruin the surprise.

If you are a fan of mysteries or magical realism then you will enjoy The Lighthouse. If you are a Stepford Wife, then you might not enjoy it quite as much as you should. I would recommend reading the book immediately. Please do not leave it on the DNF pile!

I didn't love this one. It was a little too out there for my tastes. Part story about family and grief and the loss of loved ones, part romance, part ghost story. I definitely didn't see the twists coming though. Recommended for fans of Nicholas Sparks. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my ALC.

This book was slow and lacked the magic I was looking for. I do believe it should come with trigger warnings, at least for the audiobook. There is accidentally suicide, missing person, and loss of a loved one. Overall, this wasn't a love story, magical or a thriller. This is a good book about the different shades of grief.

What a beautiful story of loss, grief and learning to find your happy ending! Originally I had to put it down and thought I was going to dnf it. Mainly because of the pacing. But something made me pick it up months later, and I am really glad that I did. Following Amy and Ryan as they learned to cope with their own grief and find ways of moving forward, was such a rewarding thing to witness. Park made these characters so relatable, it was hard not to put myself in their shoes, hard to not agree with a lot of their emotional responses. It felt like I was learning with these characters.

I don’t know how I feel about this book…

On one hand it was weird and felt really disjointed. At 50% I could not, for the life of me, understand how all the pieces were connected. It got a little better in the second half but it was still weird.

On the other hand, having lost my mother suddenly almost 9 years ago, I felt where Amy was coming from. Her struggle with grief made sense to me.

I questioned the activity with horses a lot in this book. The rope should never be tied around your wrist when lassoing a panicked horse, tie it around the horn of your saddle. Much harder for said horse to break free, unless the rope breaks. And Amy jumping on Little Dipper bareback? Since Amy has barely ridden, given Little Dipper’s tendency to panic during storms, and it being during a storm? I find it hard to believe that Amy could have held on.

The ending made me happy and my rating went up because of that. This book definitely wasn’t what I was expecting from the cover.

This was the strangest book I have ever read but I’m a good way. I did enjoy it and I would look for other books by this author. I definitely would recommend this book.

When Kevin Tucker lost his wife, his daughter Amy lost not only a loving mom, but also a dear friend. Saddled with guilt and grief in the face of a devastating loss, Amy withdraws into herself and into a dark and painful place.

Distraught at the state of Amy’s health, Kevin undertakes a missing person’s case in the distant town of Seabrook in the hopes that a change in scenery may lift Amy’s spirits, and hopefully bring he and Amy closer. Begrudgingly, Amy agrees to tag along on her dad’s assignment. Because anything was better than staying at home alone.

Upon arrival in Seabrook, Kevin and Amy settle back into their old routines. With Kevin heading down to the bar and Amy attempting to get some much needed sleep that she has been struggling to get for the last month.

Desperate for sleep, Amy draws a bath and begins her relaxation process only to be startled awake by a strange man in her bathroom, who she would later come to know as Ryan Porter.

The Lighthouse is a slow build adult fiction with hints of romance and mystery. But it is so much more and I can’t say a great deal more without giving away the story. I can say that I was taken away by the plot and was very moved by the storyline.

The characters are likeable and there is a bit of intrigue in all of them until the story unfolds toward and unforgetable ending. The Lighthouse is a moving novel that will take your breath away, leave you sobbing and wanting it to never end. Five touching stars.

I received a digital ARC from Beacon Press through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Description
Enchanting, mysterious, and deeply romantic, The Lighthouse follows a young woman's breathtaking journey far from home to discover where she truly belongs.

Something strange is happening in Seabrook. The town's lighthouse — dormant for over thirty years and famously haunted — has inexplicably started shining, and its mysterious glow is sparking feverish gossip throughout the spooked community.

Amy Tucker is only visiting for the night and has no plans to get caught up in the hysteria, but that changes when she meets Ryan, the loyal, hard-working son of a ranch owner who lives on the outskirts of town.

Their chance encounter turns into an unforgettable weekend, and against the backdrop of the lighthouse-obsessed town, the two of them forge a deep connection, opening their hearts, baring their souls, and revealing secrets long kept hidden.

But as they grow closer, and as the lighthouse glows ever brighter, a startling discovery about Ryan leaves Amy questioning everything she thought she knew. To uncover the truth about her new friend, Amy will need to enter Seabrook’s ominous tower, where waiting inside she will not only find the reason why fate has brought them together… but a shocking secret that will change the course of their lives forever.
