the back half of this series is plagued by pacing issues. how is it possible that i just read 400+ pages and nothing happened?

expectations are low but i am happy that there is only one book left in the series.

This book isn’t much more than a vehicle to get you and the characters to the last book in the Dark Tower series. This is however not a bad thing, because it does its job very well. I found this book clipped along at a good pace and every time I picked it up to read I didn’t want to put it down.

The book adds a lot of new lore to the Dark Tower-verse which some would argue it did not need. Personally I found it fascinating and fleshed out the world more, the real world is complicated so why should a make believe world be any different?

Surprisingly Mia is one of King’s best written female characters, I found her very engaging and wanted to know more about her. Massive spoilers ahead but I also found one the best drawn characters was King himself, he manages to write himself in a kind but self-deprecating way and I hope we see more of him in the conclusion to the Dark Tower.

If you’re this deep into the Dark Tower books you’re not likely to stop here, but if you were considering it keep reading! Song of Susannah worked well for what it was and made me very excited to get to the finale.

For a book in The Dark Tower series, this one is a bit dull. It's a set up for the final novel and one I felt was hard to get through.
